Continue interrupted route - grey circle does not appear *aarrrgghhh*

Unfortunately this thread is closed: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?370859-How-to-deal-with-custom-route-creation-interruption-in-Base-Camp

But I have exactly the same problem and actually I was quite happy that I found the posting from Lenny-FL, but still it does not work.

While on my test route the grey circle appears properly when I want to continue my (interrupted) route, on my "real" route this big grey circle refuses to appear, very stubborn.

When I use the "insert" tool and hover over the last point of the route (where I need to continue), insted of the big grey circle only the connection between two points is shown. But I don't want to insert an additional point between two existing points, I need to continue my route.

Working on test route:

Not working on my "real" route:

Tried with the cursor from all directions. Nope. Frustrated. Feeling stupid.

Thanks for an advice.
  • You've confused me. What is the difference between your test route and your real route

If by that you mean the test route is one you've created in BaseCamp and the other is on your device then you cannot use BaseCamp to change routes, or indeed any data, on the device itself.

    *** Update ***

Just in case, other people also might struggle with this, here's the solution.

Maybe it's because the last point was unfortunately exactly on a traffic circle, but in max zoom you have the chance to get the big grey circle to extend the route in about 1 from 30 times you try. Easier is it to move a point which does not "work" to any different location near the old position and voila, the grey circle appears properly as it should.

Don't know if this also is possible in English, but in German we call this "victory of intelligence over technique" :p

P.S. now I can't even upload the screenshot (size 17KB) here, it says "exceeds your quota by 8.1KB. So no more screenshots for me in this forum, but you know what a traffic circle is :)

Both are in Basecamp, but the test route is the one where I practice splits, new points, re-routing and everything, while the "real" route is the one I will keep for the journey. So the test route is only kind of a "test lab" :)
