Basecamp has branded all my GPX files which is causing problems

I use Windows 7 and Basecamp 4.6.2. I download GPX files into a documents folder and then selectively load the into Basecamp to use on my GPS. Because I opened up a GPX file another way now all my GPX files are Basecamp branded which means 3rd parties such as friends who don't use Basecamp can't read them. How can I reverse this?
When I click on the "property" of any GPX File, it says type of file: Basecamp (.gpx) opens with Adobe Acrobat reader! Which of course doesn't open the file. I must have clicked on Adobe by mistake when Windows recommended programs. I have tried to undo this but cannot find a way to do it.
