Adding Via Points in Basecamp

I have been happily using a Quest and Mapsource for years, to calculate my routes before uploading.
Adding "Via Points" to a pre-calculated route was easy, and you could add a personal waypoint or search for a town or junction.

This option does not seem to be available with Basecamp and a Nuvi. I can add a personal waypoint, but not a town or junction?

Am I missing an option somewhere ?

And as an aside, whilst on a journey, I took a detour from the Nuvi calculated route (still staying on mapped roads) and the Nuvi gave up! "Unable to calculate route" it said to me, one assumes in digital frustration! The Quests that I have used happily for years never gave up!
  • Not sure why you're nuvi couldn't calculate route unless it had lost the gps signal?

As for adding via points, you can rubber band your route if that's what you're trying to do? You can also open the route properties and select the + button. You can search for towns using the search function (top right). Junctions are available using Find, Find intersection in the toolbar.
  • Sussamb,

Using Basecamp 4.6.2, Windows 10 in UK.

Thanks for that, the rubber band method works, I shall use that in future, I had forgotten about that!

However, when I use the "+" sign under "Route Properties" all I get is a list of my waypoints in a new window, there is no "Search" or "Find" function as there is in Mapsource.

Still had GPS coverage when the Nuvi got lost, but I do like to go my own way!

I started with a GPSII+ a long time ago, using Trip and Waypoint Manager and "GPS Utility"(GPSU). I still use GPSU for converting data and a Foretrex 201. Only bought the Nuvi because the Quest was going deaf, which I think was the connection between the hinged antenna and the body of the unit.

    Thanks again.

Yes, afraid you need to search/find first then add them to your lists, after that you can add them to your route.
