Use folders and lists to sort and categorise your tracks, routes and waypoints.

Create a new folder and then create a list within that folder. Send the required track to that list. When you select that list in Basecamp, only the items in the list are displayed. A list is essentially a filter.

When I upload to BaseCamp, I can see the track listed in the left column. When I click on it, EVERY track I've made since owning this GPS is shown. I don't want EVERY track, just the last one. So there is lots of overlap of tracks...which is stupid ...

No, it's not stupid, many of us want to see all our tracks. Indeed you imply you also want to save all your tracks. If you just want one to display on the map the answer is in the post above. Learn how to use BaseCamp properly and it will do everything you want.

Remember that BaseCamp works from a database. The 'data' in any folder/list is simply a pointer to the actual data. So one item can 'exist' in as many, or as few, folders/lists as you wish.

I just did a short drive/walk of 5 miles, but because of overlapping, it reads all the other tracks too, and reports that I drove 40 miles today!

If it's reporting you drove 40 miles then that's because you didn't save your previous trip on your Etrex and start a new one, nothing to do with BaseCamp. If you want your Etrex to record each trip as an individual track then at the beginning of every trip, having ensured your Etrex has a satellite lock and is correctly showing your position, clear the track/trip data, and after every trip, and before you switch it off, ensure you save the track.

I want to save all the tracks because each one is unique (except for starting point). I can do this fine with Google Earth, draw a path of the track I just made, then save it with unique name. How do I do this with the Etrex/BaseCamp?

Once you've copied your tracks into BaseCamp you can rename them to whatever you want. You can also give the tracks whatever name you want to when you save them to your Etrex.

I bought a Etrex 20x for ONE reason only...to view tracks.

I'm assuming you have several files each representing a single track? You can view a single track easily. I have probably over 100 tracks download and can select a single track, several or all. I have a list added into a folder by state and the list named for each track. YOu can have multiple tracks within a list and then all the tracks will show when the list is selected but if you select one of the tracks it will be highlighted among them all. To see only a single track only its best to make a single list and name it same as your track, transfer or copy (if already transferred in Basecamp) the track to the list folder and you will only see that track when that list is selected. I can see your point about viewing all the tracks at once being confusing but I do occasionally want to too see the entirety of my explorations over a given area on the map. If youve organized by folder and lists (subfolders) you can view all tracks within the folder by selecting the folder or a single track by selecting the list (again 1 tracks per list).
