BaseCamp Problem re: Route Creation/Display

I have BaseCamp v4.6.2 installed on a Win7 PC (32-bit) with 4GB RAM and see these strange pink-colored lines in the display. This happens in BaseCamp, independently of my GPS device, when I go to create a route from saved Waypoints. Anybody have any idea of what's causing this?
  • It looks like the routing is "snapping" to roads (in particular) the road at the top.

The cyan (light blue) at the bottom is your recorded track but it doesn't appear to follow any paths/road that is on the map that Basecamp is using.

Essentially, you are asking Basecamp to use roads/paths on the map where there are none (that causes Basecamp to produce the "strange pink lines").
  • Yes, you're using a map that isn't suitable for the route you're using. Looks like you're using a map more suitable for driving.

The picture was helpful, thanks. Im guessing from the small scale (700m) your trying to create a "hiking" or other non road route and the "Xs" are waypoints you added? YOu are then asking Basecamp to create a route from A to B. The road is represented by the yellow line (marked with blue boxes) and the light blue lines represent actual routes captured by the GPS and loaded into Basecamp with waypoints you have created. A conjecture is that Basecamp may be trying to provide a "Driving" activity, connecting your waypoints with closest connection from the yellow road on the map to each offroad waypoint (Xs). Perhaps start over and experiment with different "Activity Profile" more suitable for your route such as hiking or walking or direct?. Your will probably need to force the route to each of the offroad way points by dragging the route and other manipulation techniques.

    Thanks to everyone that responded

I wanted to clarify that I first noticed this on one Win7 (32-bit) PC, running BaseCamp v4.6.2 over a year ago without any GPS device connected or any maps loaded. This was strictly in BaseCamp. Later on when I uploaded my GPS device's (eTrex 20) data to BC with a saved Track, I saw those strange pink/red lines appear as I show in my screen capture up above.

Initially, I was creating a route from scratch in BC to upload to my eTrex 20 when I first notcied this. I don't remember what my BaseCamp routing Settings/Configs were set to, and think I've fooled around with those since so that won't help.

Then I went to a second Win7 (64-bit) PC with BC v4.6.2 and soon noticed the same thing happening (creating a new route from scratch, no GPS device connected yet).

I want to recreate the problem and note the Settings and other Configs in BaseCamp this time. I found a similar issue on another forum (https://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?id=27284) if it in fact is the same problem. It's quite a lengthy read and might be related to OpenStreetMaps, I don't know.

I wanted to thank everyone that responded and will update my results as I produce them.

    Best regards,

  • Note until you use the correct map or alter your settings and use the direct profile you'll continue to have the issue.

    That's old.

I use those maps without any problem.

The funny pink lines are the result of using routing with an inappropriate map.

You either need to use a map with the trails you want to use for routing OR you have to use no routing all all (use the "direct" routing).
