BaseCamp and Google Earth Pro latest version 7.1.8.3036

My machines were recently upgraded to Google Earth Pro version 7.1.8.3036 and it broke the ability on one of them for a BaseCamp route to be displayed in Earth Pro.. only on one of the machines. Since one computer still works fine, that implied Google has done nothing further in their newest code version to break the link.

After redoing SUSSAMB's recommendation below from one of his earlier posts, all is well again.

From the Command Prompt type the following as applicable and press ENTER:
(Make sure you are in the C:\ root directory)

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Google Earth Pro\client\googleearth.exe" /RegServer (works with Google Earth Pro in Win 7...10)

"C:\Program Files\Google\Google Earth Pro\client\googleearth.exe" /RegServer (Google Earth Pro in XP)

"C:\Program Files\Google\Google Earth\client\googleearth.exe" /RegServer (Google Earth in XP)

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Google Earth\client\googleearth.exe" /RegServer (Google Earth non-Pro on Win 7, 8.x and 10)

Note for those not used to using the command line in Windows, the double quotes in all of the examples are critical.
They MUST be there and in the indicated places or you'll get an error that the directory name is invalid. It won't harm anything; it simply won't work.

  • Fixed!

This fixed my problem also. I needed to run the cmd prompt in admin mode, I guess I didn't do that the first time.

.. or just type CD \
  • This method did not work on my Win10 computer. I ended up uninstalling v7.1.8.3036 and installing the old v7.1.7.2602.
  • This method for Google Earth Pro v7.3.1.4507 (64-bit) did not work in Win10 for me in Command Prompt (Admin) either. The command line in post #1 returned the error "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Google Earth Pro\client\googleearth.exe" /RegServer is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

    Any ideas?
  • Thanks Jason.
I finally got the command line to run by changing the path, as GE Pro was installed in Program Files on my machine and not in Program Files (x86). However, I still couldn't get it to work - very frustrating! I will have to consider using your approach.

The 64 bit version will not work. You have to use the 32 bit version.

If you are running 64 bit Windows, 64 bit programs will be in "C:\Program Files" and 32 bit programs will be in "C:\Program Files (x86)".

    Thank you for this information.

By way of background, GE just recently stopped working in BC. (View in GE) So I did some searching in the ZumoForums (my usual resource), and I tried using the Command Line fix, which didn't work. Of course, I also tried having GE running first, got error message. Then I found a link to this thread, and checked, and my GE was the 64 bit version.

So I went to another link in this thread, and re-installed the 32 bit version 7.3 of GE, (didn't uninstall 64 bit, or re-change the command line)

Lo and behold, when I then opened BC, and tried View in GE, it worked just as before.

Thanks for pointing out the 64 bit version of GE doesn't work.
