Garmin Express/Basecamp cannot find nuvi 67LM

I work out a route on BaseCamp and want to load it into my nuvi67LM. Basecamp says there is no device connected. The computer itself recognizes there is a nuvi67 connected to it. Any ideas?
  • MapSource is City Navigator North America 2009 and BaseCamp is City Navigator North America NT 2017.2 The City Navigator North America 2009 is also available in BaseCamp, although the default is the 2017.2 one.

My understanding is the most recent update for MapSource is from about 2010 or some such. Garmin stopped issuing updates to their no-longer-supported MapSource.

If the maps are installed to your PC both MapSource and BaseCamp should use them. Garmin haven't updated MapSource but it still works.
  • I picked a starting point and an end point about 170 miles away. No other waypoints or viapoints. Just start here and end there. It seems to have been sent - just like before, I got a brief flash of a green bar seeming to indicate loading progress. When I go to the nuvi, however, it says there's nothing there, and in Apps and Trip Planner, where I used to be able to find what I'd sent, it says there's nothing. And I have the endlessly circling "loading" icon. That icon will eventually stop when the software 'times out.' I've waited, with the GPS plugged in to the computer for far longer than any of my other GPSs take to load, and when I unplugged the GPS, the circle icon had stopped. Of course, there's no way to know whether it timed out or something else happened when the GPS is connected to the computer. And even after waiting with the GPS connected, it still says there's nothing in there.

Very strange, seems like your nuvi has an issue. Can you check if it has sufficient free space? If so I'd try a master reset. I've owned quite a few nuvis and never had issues sending routes to them, either via MapSource or BaseCamp.

Done. I opened the volume screen and held the top right corner, and got the Diagnostics page. I Erased All Data. Interestingly, BaseCamp loaded City Navigator North America NT 2018.1 - how about that?

Once the map was loaded I loaded both the short version of my MapSource route and the starting point and end point only route I had from earlier. Neither one shows up in the GPS when I go to Apps and Trip Planner. The only items in the Saved folder are Garmin USA, Garmin Europe, and Garmin Asia.

This tells me those viapoints from my GSAK Pocket Query must have come from the one time I tried sending the nuvi67 my route directly from MapSource instead of going through BaseCamp.

    Thoughts?
  • You are sending a route and not a track? If you're sending a track it won't work. If you're sure you're sending a route can you add it to your next post as I'd like to check it out. Note the forum won't accept a gpx file, so send it as a zip file or change the file type to one it will accept and I'll change it back.

I went back to MapSource and tried to load the route into the GPS. I actually got a "loading" bar and I got a message saying the route was sent. When I unplugged the GPS and turned it back on (it shuts off every time I unplug it) it still says there are no routes. The waypoints are back in the Saved or Favorites or whatever the heart-shaped icon found on the right side of the Where To? page is.

Let's see if I can zip the file.

    Zip file

I hope that's the zip file. I had to bring in my wife, who is extremely computer-savvy, and it took her countless tries to get even this loaded. This is the less-than-30 viapoint part of the route from GSAK's Pocket Query. I had to get it from MapSource, because I couldn't get anything from BaseCamp to copy to anything. But at least you can see what I'm trying to do.

I'll keep poking at BaseCamp and see if I can get this same file to move over to WinZip.
  • That route has 31 waypoints which might explain why it's not loading. Unfortunately I don't have time right now to try it on my device, but will do so tomorrow.

Edit: Ok, loaded that route into BaseCamp and sent it to my nuvi, opened it in seconds and it showed the route as per your screenshot so there is nothing wrong with the route/gpx file. Must be an issue with your device. Are you sure you haven't hit any limits on your device and that is has sufficient free space? For example I believe your device can only hold 1000 waypoints. If you've loaded lots of PQs that limit may have been reached and I'm unclear what then happens, a spinning wheel when trying to import a gpx file containing more waypoints might be the result :)

If none of that applies then I'd try a master reset and if that doesn't improve the situation then give Product Support a call.

I may be at some sort of limit - how do I delete old routes and data? I find that "Clear Travel History" in the nuvi hasn't helped anything. And trying to delete routes and data from the computer side of things is an exercise in futility and frustration. I can manually select the entire contents of My Collection (highlight the first entry, hold Shift, scroll to the last entry) and hit Delete, and the map immediately shrinks so the entire US is about 3 inches wide. The My Collection information appears to be gone - it says The List Is Empty. But the file name doesn't disappear from My Library. And if I connect my GPS and click on Internal Storage, it's all right back again. Thus my conclusion that "Clear Travel History" doesn't do much. If I highlight and try to delete the Internal Storage information, all that happens is the map shrinks to that small size. The waypoints/viapoints and the routes do not disappear.

Previous GPSs I've owned - hand held and nuvi/Quest - are all pretty easy to see how to delete unwanted information. Not this nuvi67. I'm not going to ask why they designed it like this - you didn't design it. But how the heck do I delete old routes, and clear space in my nuvi?

(Do you think the forum will stay up and running today?)
  • Data on auto units can only be deleted on the unit and not via BaseCamp. Trips are deleted in the app, favourites via the Favourites icon.

So to delete trips I start the GPS and go to Apps, then Trip Planner, then touch the 3 bars icon at top left and select Delete. I've done that, and it says there's no saved trips.

There are no routes in the Saved (heart icon) folder, only waypoints/viapoints. But as I said earlier, when I connect the GPS to my computer and BaseCamp, I can get the routes back with the click of one button.

I just checked yet again that my Trip Planner was empty, and I deleted the contents of the Saved file. I then opened BaseCamp and connected my GPS to the computer. At top left of the map screen, in Devices/nuvi67 I clicked on Internal Storage, and the route and waypoints from Youngstown Ohio to Orrville Ohio AND the route from Youngstown Ohio to Columbus Ohio are there on the map. In fact, there are three routes. The one to Columbus and two to Orrville. One of those is the abbreviated version of my route, and the other is the entire route - the one with 40+ waypoints.

How do I delete these and make them actually gone?
