Garmin Express/Basecamp cannot find nuvi 67LM

I work out a route on BaseCamp and want to load it into my nuvi67LM. Basecamp says there is no device connected. The computer itself recognizes there is a nuvi67 connected to it. Any ideas?
  • Not quite. Open the trip then tap the 3bar icon and delete.

If after that trips are still showing then you must have stray .gpx files on your device or card. Do a search for .gpx files and delete any you find.

From the computer, going into the nuvi and opening GPX, I find an Archive file folder with nothing in it. I find a Current.gpx file with 1kb in it, and a Temp.gpx file with 387 kb in it. You're saying to delete both Current and Temp files?

So, with the Trip Planner and Saved folder empty, and with nothing showing on the computer's map, I created another route - just a start point and an end point. I have not yet emptied those two gpx files. So I loaded the new route into the GPS. I got a message asking whether I wanted to use an existing data folder or create a new one. I told it to create a new one. After I did that, the file appeared to load. I got a "progress bar" that showed something moved somewhere. And, since I had not emptied the gpx files, I recalled that I had 387 kb in the temp.gpx file. Now, after loading this new route, I have 499 kb in the temp.gpx file, and still 1 kb in the current.gpx file. So the information is transferring to the GPS. However, when I unplug the GPS from the computer and turn it on, it says there is nothing in there. No files in Trip Planner, no Saved/Favorites.

My nuvi, BTW, shows that it has 403 mb free out of 3.47 gb. Is that a reasonable amount? Or does something need cleared out?

Yes. If you have any other files apart from current.gpx they are merged everytime you boot your nuvi, so if you delete anything on your nuvi that was originally in temp.gpx it will simply reappear every time you switch the nuvi back on.

current.gpx is recreated every time you switch on. It's a one way copy of what's in internal inaccessible memory.

Free space is ample. How are you loading this route into your nuvi? You shouldn't be getting a message about creating new folders so I wonder what you're doing. In BaseCamp right click the route in the lower left hand pane, select Send to and then select your nuvi.

I loaded the route into my nuvi the same as I always do - I click on the "Send My Collection To Device" icon to the left above the map. I just tried it again, and got no folder or requests. I think perhaps I got overzealous deleting things. I think it said this folder was just to put the data in for the transfer from computer to GPS. It has not reappeared since that one time.

So I sent the file to my GPS. I got the bar indicating the file was being sent. And again, it does not appear anywhere in the GPS, even though the temp.gpx file reappears with 119kb in it.

I think there's an issue within my device itself. It looks to me as if the information is being transferred - it is just not appearing where I can access it.

Not that I expected a different result, but you never know ... I just tried creating a simple route, and instead of using the Send icon at top left, I right clicked on the route, and selected Send to my nuvi. Again, the transfer was indicated, but this time I have a trip in the Apps/Trip Planner!! Now why would that make a difference?

I'm going to try sending only the Geocaching waypoints to BaseCamp (through MapSource) and creating a short route with viapoints in it, and see if that also works.

I just took my list of geocache waypoints in GSAK and loaded them into MapSource. Without creating any routes, I saved the waypoints and was able to open that saved file in BaseCamp. I had all my waypoints in BaseCamp. I created a very short route - only the first 13 waypoints. I right clicked on the route itself, selected send, within that selected the nuvi, and it went. When I first unplugged the GPS, I got the dreaded whirling circle, but I sat the GPS aside for a few minutes, and then woke it up, went to Apps, Trip Planner, and there it was!

Now to create a longer route.

I created my whole 40-waypoint route. I right clicked, selected nuvi, hit send, and it went. When I opened the nuvi, I got a message screen saying the route I loaded was too large, so the nuvi automatically broke it into two parts. Sure enough, in the Trip Planner, there was my route, broken into part 1 and part 2.

Now tell me why that works, but the "send" icon didn't!

And, thanks very much for putting up with me!!
  • Glad resolved, must say I've never used the button you mention so unsure why yours isn't working.
