I work out a route on BaseCamp and want to load it into my nuvi67LM. Basecamp says there is no device connected. The computer itself recognizes there is a nuvi67 connected to it. Any ideas?
I updated the maps and software on the nuvi, and Express says my computer's BaseCamp and Express are up to date.
The computer still recognizes the nuvi, but BaseCamp does not. I waited with everything plugged in until the maps were finished updating, and got an error message saying there was a communication problem with gpx/temp.gpx
Is there anything else I can try, or is it time to contact Garmin and see what they can do?
If there is a problem with temp.gpx then delete it and see what happens. If that's preventing BaseCamp from detecting your 67 then deleting it may resolve your issue.
I deleted the gpx/temp file. Went to try to load the route into the nuvi and it still won't recognize that there's a device connected.
Upper left of the BaseCamp map shows My Devices and nuvi67 and Internal Storage, with a green line indicating it's loading something. The line does not appear to be growing any longer. It's sitting and not-quite-all-the-way. And, while I was writing this, the following message appeared on the BaseCamp page:
An error occured while sending the following file(s):
gpx/temp.gpx
This is after I deleted gpx/temp - unless I had to restart the GPS after deleting that file?
I turned everything off, and let it all sit while I had lunch. Now, we're back to BaseCamp not being able to find the nuvi at all. I went into the GPX folder and looked - the GPX/Temp file is indeed gone. There is an archive file in there, which apparently contains no data at all, and there's a GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife) file labeled "current" that won't open because the computer says it's in use. This also puzzles me, because I use GSAK to send the waypoints I want to visit to MapSource, where I create my route and save it. I then open BaseCamp and open the saved MapSource file in BaseCamp. I'm then able to (or, I used to be able to) load the route into the nuvi67. I didn't think GSAK would have been carried over into BaseCamp or the nuvi67 - I thought only the route I'd created would have moved. But that's all beside the point.
What else should I try? I'm ready to uninstall everything and reset the GPS back to factory settings, and start over, if you think that would help.
I'm pretty much at my wits end with all of this so called intuitive Garmin software.
I also hope I'm finally on the right forum, even that's complicated.
So Here goes. I hope someone out there can point me in right direction.
GPS - Garmin nuvi 66 LM
Computer - Windows 7 PC
Garmin Software -
Garmin Express
Garmin Basecamp
Garmin Communicator Plugin
Garmin POI Loader
The first time (this was a while ago and memory fails me a little here) I opened Garmin Express it recognized my device and seemed to be working properly, with the exception of being unable to up date my map.
Now, when I plug the device into the computer, Express can not find the device at all. The screen on the device is locked with the words:
GARMIN (then underneath)
garmin.com/express (and below that)
graphic representation of a device plugged into a computer
I can not navigate off this screen on the Garmin. I tried different USB ports, all to no avail.
I have unchecked Automatically Launch Garmin Express to see if that would help but I get the same results as noted above.
The first time I ran Basecamp the program loaded up and ran OK, I was able to use the trip planner and plan a trip with the initial installed map. Now when I run Basecamp the program seems to load OK but it will not allow me to utilize the trip planner. I get a message that the trip planner is not compatible with the current map. Connect your Garmin device to use it's map or select another map to use. When I connect the device, like with Garmin Express, Basecamp can not recognize my device. I have also downloaded what are suppose to be a bunch of US Planimetric Maps from the GPSFile Depot, and installed them on my computer. Basecamp recognizes all of these maps and will load all of them into the program but again it will not allow me to plan a trip using any of these maps. Instead I get the same message that the trip planner is not compatible with the current map. Connect your Garmin device to use it's map or select another map to use. A Classic Catch 22 !
I have only run the POI Loader one time and it worked flawlessly.
I have not tried uninstalling and reinstalling all of the software yet.
What you're seeing on your nuvis screen is what should be shown. As for BaseCamp not being able to use the installed maps to create trips that's almost certainly because they aren't 'routeable' maps.
Your real issue appears to be the device not being recognised. Does it show as a drive on your PC?
You use MapSource? Does your 67 show in that? Note for it to do so you'll need to switch your nuvi to mass storage mode.
Yes, I use MapSource, and no, the nuvi67 does not show. My old nuvi550 still does, though. I will switch the 67 to mass storage mode.
As an aside, when this question/discussion was moved from where I initially asked it, it was moved into the Mac & Windows forum. I have a PC, not a Mac. Does that make any difference with this problem?
