I removed a lot of old "places" from Google Earth and now BC can't find Google Earth. I reinstalled GE and that didn't help. What do I need to do? FYI - I'm still launching Google Earth manually, did that problem ever get fixed?
You may find it easier to temporarily modify the properties of a Google Earth shortcut. Add the " /RegServer" option to the end of the Target field, then run the shortcut. You should probably also set the "Run as Administrator" option under the Advanced field.
On my Windows10 machine the command would be "C:\Program Files\Google\Google Earth Pro\client\googleearth.exe" /RegServer
Now remove the changes that you just added and save the shortcut.
This tells Google Earth that it needs to run as a service so that other programs can access it.
I am using Google Earth 7.1.7.2606, Build Date 10/6/2016 on my Windows 8.1 PC. If I launch GE first then go to GE from BC it works for me. The newest version did not work so I reinstalled the older version. No Problem now.
Yes, for me, switching from a 64-bit version of GE, to a 32-bit version worked. I saw this tip in another thread.
I then fired up BC, then used the View|Google Earth, and all was well.
I didn't even uninstall the 64-bit version that wouldn't work. Apparently, it just installed the 32-bit version right over the top of the 64-bit version.
The specific GE version I used is 7.3.1.4507 (32-bit) Build Date Tuesday, February 6, 2018 12:17:43 AM UTC
I had all the same problems, running Windows 7 Pro with Basecamp 4.6.2. I ended up uninstalling the version of Google Earth I had installed on my PC and installing this 32Bit version, then it all worked.
