Google earth

I removed a lot of old "places" from Google Earth and now BC can't find Google Earth. I reinstalled GE and that didn't help. What do I need to do? FYI - I'm still launching Google Earth manually, did that problem ever get fixed?
  • SUSSAMB I tried your ideas from 1-28-2016 sticky post, and also did the uninstall and reinstall of GE before making the first post, including deleting leftover GE folders after the uninstall. I did not touch BC, that's always scary. Still nothing works. Garmin should have fixed the problem launching GE with BC a couple years ago.

As you'll see from the above its not a Garmin issue but to do with Google Earth. Perhaps you can find an older version of GE so that it will allow BC to launch it.

I now have the same problem. Neither BC or Mapsource will allow a route to be viewed in GE. Very frustrating!!
I've tried all the obvious delete and reloads, nothing seems to work.
If anyone out there can help, please respond.
    Thanks
  • I thought there was some additional recent posts on this with more instructions on fixing this, but I don't see them:

SUSSAMB posted the instructions below. First right click the Windows start button, click the command prompt in ADMIN mode. When you run the command prompt (an old DOS window appears) you need to be at C:\ To get there enter cd\ and then press enter, then copy the code below that applies to you and press enter. Close the DOS window. Launch BC and you should be good.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Google Earth Pro\client\googleearth.exe" /RegServer (works with Google Earth Pro in Win 7...10)

"C:\Program Files\Google\Google Earth Pro\client\googleearth.exe" /RegServer (Google Earth Pro in XP)

    "C:\Program Files\Google\Google Earth\client\googleearth.exe" /RegServer (Google Earth in XP)

I'm running Windows 10 but I've just discovered that using the XP option at the command line rectifies my problem.
Really pleased I can now view my routes again in GE. To me it is an essential feature when tour planning. :)
    Thanks

    Same problem

Current version of GE is 7.1.8.3036 (32-bit) and for BC 4.6.2 with driver 2.1.3.0. GE is open but BC does think so.

If there is another way to transfer routes from BC to Google Maps but by using GE as an interim step could anyone please tell me.

    Thanks,
    Paul
  • I repaired the problem caused by GE 7.1.8.3036 by uninstalling it and installing 7.1.7.2602. The old version is available at https://support.google.com/earth/answer/168344?hl=en
  • The use of Google Earth used to work for me also. I just had to have it open as Basecamp would not call it.
But now, I get the same response that Google earth is not running and needs be open but even with it open it will not show the basecamp route any longer. I think somehow (without my permission) GE updated from the version that did work.

Another of the many reasons whey Basecamp needs to update.

I uninstalled and installed an older version 7.1.7.2602 thanks to fix provided by Dennis_K above.

As I had never purposefully updated GE, I looked for a setting that allows GE to automatically update to deselect it but could not find such a setting. As I researched , auto update is a check you must set at the install application. However if you install GE from the link provided by Dennis_K the auto updates are not invoked per Google help forum.

  • I have GE 7.1.8.3036 (Earth Pro) working from Basecamp on two 64 bit Windows 10 machines.

I had to do the registry trick shown above on one of the machines.
