According to Garmin Help, I should be able to join tracks. See BaseCamp screenshot - the "Join Tracks" remains grayed out when I have selected multiple tracks. thanks Joining Tracks You can join two or more tracks into a single track. Select one or more tracks (Selecting Multiple Items). Select Edit > Join Tracks . Select a track. Select an option: Select to move the track down in the list. Select to move the track up in the list. Select to reverse the direction of the track. Select to remove the track from the list. Select Join Tracks . A new track is created by joining the tracks.

Joining Tracks
You can join two or more tracks into a single track.

Select one or more tracks (Selecting Multiple Items).
Select Edit > Join Tracks.
Select a track.
Select an option:
- Select to move the track down in the list.
- Select to move the track up in the list.
- Select to reverse the direction of the track.
- Select to remove the track from the list.
Select Join Tracks. A new track is created by joining the tracks.

Yes you can but you appear to have also selected a route? Keene to Keene isn't a track or is it?

yes, thanks - Keene to Keene is a route, not a track - I'm not even sure how it was created, I was using the Track tool to design new singletrack trail in that area, I must have done something.

Anyway, I selected only the 3 tracks and was able to join them; and a window appeared asking if I wanted to delete original 3 tracks, which I did; however, the new joined tracks appear with a straight line going from one end to the other (see screenshot) - I don't want to see that - how can I get rid of it, and in future, why did that happen? thanks.

Because you've joined the end of one to the start of another. You have to be careful how you join tracks otherwise you will get straight lines between them if the end of one isn't concurrent with the start of another.

I also see that that line consists of only two points, from the start to finish, and I selected those points, the straight line appears in orange - when I try to delete those two points, I think 2 points were deleted as the numbers changed, but the straight line is still there between them (screenshot)

there is no way to get rid of that line now?

It will just have jumped to the next points. If you want to remove the straight line and therefore have no line between the points use the Track splitting tool to cut it out. You may find the information here useful http://www.gpsrchive.com/BaseCamp/index.htm
