two maps needed to do what I want

Guys I am plotting a trip thru California. I currently have three maps on my Zumo. When plotting I avoid
Using the global map due to lack of detail so I mainly stick with USA!Canad of which there are two. Slight difference in titles that indicate they are two different maps. I find I can only use one for actual road following. When I plot along a curvy road I find that one map will follow the road line exactly and yet the other map will show straight lines. As well I find that I cannot find addresses in the good plotting map so I have switch maps to find things. Is this typical to have to switch maps to plan? All software is updated

Well it depends. Not all maps are routeable, so you get straight lines, and not all maps have every location every person will want, so all maps are a compromise somehow. Without knowing exactly which maps you have answering your question is impossible.

No, it's not normal to need 2 maps. I'm using City Navigator North America NT. Using that map, searching works fine and it routes appropriately along known roads. You can't do that with the Global map. You say there are two called "USA|Canad." Which two exactly?

OK guys the maps that I have are City navigator North America NT 2018.1 and City North America NT 2018.10 3-D US and Canada

The 3d map isn't a map in the normal sense, it simply provides the 3D visualisation. You need to be selecting the other map in BaseCamp and/or on your device. Note on your device both maps should be enabled.

S.l.o'w'l'.y we turn, but maybe we learn. Seems that, according to Garmin manuals, at least some of the Zumos have road routing category avoidance options not available to automotive and handheld gps users. And some maps do not include all, if any, routable road categories
