Codepage 932,936 in a TYP file

Hi

Can anyone confirm that the latest hiking devices, ie GPS64 , Oregon600 etc ignore Simplified Chinese, Japanese characters contained in a TYP file?

I create a TYP file with Chinese and/or Japanese characters & use it to create a map. They display correctly in Basecamp with say codepage=65001 or seperately using 932/936 but are rendered invisible on my Garmin devices. I know the unicode is correct and I don't get ansi characters

I can display/combine character sets with codepages 1250 - 1258 - no problem , so when I search I can see Greek,Arabic, Hewbrew but never Chinese, Japanese.

I presume Garmin doesn't sell any hiking devices in Japan or China?

I always have my devices' language set to English.

I think this is a bug.

I doubt if anyone here can answer that, your best bet may be to contact Product Support

According to Wikipedia, the simplified and combined 932 and 936 code page "characters" may require an extra byte above the minimal 8 bit support of other code page characters. Good luck.
