Montana 680 switches off after "Enter next stage"

My brand new Montana 680 (firmware 2.60) switches off 9 out of 10 times, when I select "Enter next stage" (under Geocaching), typing the new coordinate and selecting the V button.
When selecting the V button the system shuts down.
I switch it on again and re-enter the new coordinate. Now there's no problem.
Until I have an other geocache loaded and go into "Enter next stage" again. BANG! It switches off again.
Very annoying....

Is there anything I can do to prevent this?
Or has this to be fixed in the firmware?
  • This forum is about BaseCamp. Unfortunately there are no forums here for the Montana so your best bet is to call Product Support or ask here http://forums.gpsreview.net/categories/garmin-handheld-gps-and-fitness-gps-forum
  • Although my 680 is no longer new and the original post is from 5 years ago I too have the problem described. I spoke with Garmin support and they suspected a corrupt file. Their recommendation was to copy user data to Basecamp then reset to factory defaults then use Basecamp to send data back to the unit.

I downloaded to Basecamp and followed the procedure to do a factory reset. When I tried to upload my user data from Basecamp I got an error message that it was unrecognized data. Not a huge loss but annoying.

I then tried a multi-cache and after entering the new coordinates the unit promptly shut down. Reboot, re-enter and carry on.
