Windows 7U-64 Database 4.6.2

I have TWO (2) database one at the default location -- that is on my C: drive where I normally only have the OS and other programs. The other is on my F: drive where I normally store my data. (Don't ask how or why . . . . . .. . . ) Is there a way to MERGE the two databases so that I have one database on my F: that includes the waypoints, routes and tracks from the database on my C: drive?
  • Are you able to open the two databases independently (one at a time)? If so, you can:

    - open the one on the C: drive,
    - export everything you want into a GPX file,
    - open the one on the F: drive,
    - import the GPX file.

Yes, I can open each database. I was afraid to import because I did not want to overwrite and lose the first data

Do you have Garmin's Mapsource installed? If so, you can:

    - Open Basecamp with the C: database,
    - Copy all the stuff you want from that collection,
    - Open Mapsource,
    - Paste it into Mapsource. This might take multiple copy/paste operations to get what you want into Mapsource,
    - Open the F: database in Basecamp,
    - Copy/paste the stuff from Mapsource that you want back into Basecamp.

Basecamp and Mapsource are capable of smart copy/paste operations so routes, tracks, and waypoints will go properly. The only thing you can't do is lists and folders into Mapsource. That's why you might want to do multiple copy/paste operations.

  • Another option would be to send the data from one database to a USB stick. Then open the second database and copy the data from the USB stick.
  • Losing data already in a database shouldn't be a problem. By default, if an object is imported with an existing name, the imported object will be renamed by appending a number. To be safe, you should back-up the database before bringing in the new data. I would strongly recommend that the import or copy should be to a empty list. This will make it easier to spot any duplicated objects or other issues. You should also be able to undo the import with a ctrl-z or via the menu edit>undo, before closing BaseCamp, if you do not like what you see .
