Multiple day route and own POIs

I have been struggling for some time to use Basecamp to produce routes lasting more than one day and using my own POIs. I have tried setting a start date and number of days for the route, then entering the start point and the final destination and number of hours driving per day. I then need to be able to add a succesion of POIs to the route, but it won't automatically recalculate each day, nor can I seem to do this manually.

My second problem is inputing the POIs. I have tried taking the base file (.csv), converting it to .gpx and importing them into "My Collection", but then how do I use them in my route? Alternatively I have tried copying the Garmin folder from my Nuvi 2597LM onto a memory stick on my PC but the POIs don't then show up in the "Maps" drop down menu.

Can anyone help, please?
  • Well let's start with the POIs first and then see if that solves your first problem.

You mention your POIs so I assume you have these files on your nuvi as .gpi files? If so the simplest way to get these to show in BaseCamp is copy them to a POI folder on a memory stick or SD card. For BaseCamp to read them you also need to copy the Garmin folder from your nuvi to the stick/card.

Having done that you'll be able to view them in BC having selected them in Maps, Manage Custom POIs.

Having got POIs to show in BC you can add them to your trips by starting to type their name in the destination box in trip planner. As you type you'll see them appear in the drop down list.

    POI s from Nuvi

Thanks SUSSAMB fro your reply. I have copied the Garmin folder from my device to a folder Garmin on the SD card in my PC and have added the POI folder from my Nuvi to the folder, so the folder Garmin on my SD stick now has Garmin XML file, a folder Diag (containing GarminOS text document) and a folder POI with my POIs in .gpi format. However, they stil don't appear in Basecamp. From previous threads on this forum I had expected them to appear under the Maps drop down menu - Manage custom POIs, but this is still shaded out. Help!
  • The POI folder needs to be on its own, not in the Garmin folder.

    Custom POIs

I have moved it so that it is now a separate folder on the SD stick, but it has made no difference.
  • Well that's strange, they do on mine. You have rebooted BaseCamp I assume?

Does the stick itself appear as a 'device' (a nuvi 2597) in the top left hand pane? Unless it does the POIs won't show.

Thanks Susan, and sorry about the long delay in getting back to you. I had not appreciated that I had to go through this procedure. The POIs are now available, so I can add them to a route, but I can only get the new POI to appear at the end of the route and I then have to laboriously move it up to its proper place. I also still have the problem that all the POIs appear in Day 1 of the route, as per attached. I am used to working with Autoroute, where the software sorts out the days automatically.
  • I don't use trip planner so not much help I'm afraid. I tend to simply use route planner and plan trips that way. With those you can right click them and select 'Optimise route' should you wish to.

I have tried "Optimize route" but that didn't change the fact that all the points are shown in the first day, despite the route taking several days. So how do you get the points in to the right day?
  • Sorry, as I said I don't use trip planner so can't help with that. Perhaps this can help

    Multi day trips.

Unfortunately Trip Planner can't be used any more because the maps are no longer maintained, so I want to use Base Camp. None of the videos shows how to use Base Camp for a route that lasts several days, although Base Camp implies that this is possible, by asking you how many days you want your trip to last. So, how do you do this in Base Camp. Does anyone us this facility?:(
