I don’t know if this is a right place to comment on Birdseye imagery product ,but I couldn’t find a better place to express my frustration with it. I use it mainly in the basecamp only ,because on my Montana 600 it is not usable in the daytime in the field. But that is not of great importance to me, what is important that images are not taken in the winter,or cloudy day. My area of interest is northern Canada, and Quebec especially. Images in the winter will make a lake, clearing or tundra look the same. I rather have a 10 year old image with all the lakes, streams, clearings, trails than all white and the same. Recently some of this excellent images were replaced by those winter useless ones. Age of images for northern Canada is not important, very little changes in 10 years, unless there was a busy beaver at work.
  • Well I can understand your issue but your best bet is to raise this at http://www8.garmin.com/contactUs/ideas/

Of course if you have older images you can continue to use them rather than replace them with newer ones if the older ones are better for you. I use BirdsEye on my Montana and find it perfectly acceptable though, so surprised you say you only use them in BaseCamp as on your Montana they're unusable
  • Doesn't Google Earth do the same thing.?
I just open Google Earth then in Basecamp do View/Google Earth/Center of Screen.
Google Earth will then zoom into the same location shown on Basecamp
The free version of Google Earth does not provide time of year images that I could find but perhaps the pro version does.
Today, when I tried it around Quebec there was not snow on the ground.

I use Google Earth all the time in conjunction with Basecamp to check if sketchy roads have gates or are signed private or to understand the condition of a road.
  • BirdsEye and GE often differ so I use both, not sure about GE Pro as I don't use it.

Thanks,I will send my comment to Garmin. My Montana shows images perfectly indoors, cloudy day, nights, shade. On the lake in full sunshine,Pouring rain, winds and waves, in real life situations at my age of 70 (vision) it is not acceptable. I do keep older images for my area of interest, but I was expecting from Garmin to add more of better high definition images for the area with low resolution, cloudy or winter images. In recent update Garmin removed some high quality high def.images in my collection of jnx files with low res. or winter images. As far as Google Earth it is not as convenient because it is not overlaid over my topo maps in Basecamp ,and my data and planning the routes, displaying tracks is not possible with icons I use, plus birdsEye has more high res. images in isolated areas than Google Earth Pro. Thanks all for response.

Rudy. Google maps provide historical sat images so you would be able to view without snow. the link for more info is here. https://www.google.com/earth/explore/showcase/historical.html.
Again you can use Google maps in conjunction with Basecamp as I mentioned previously.
