I must be doing something wrong - routing won't follow existing route?

I am sorry if this has been covered before... I've looked through and can't find any mention of it.

So I'm new to this, literally today - I have Basecamp and an Edge 800 for mountain biking.

I created a new route today, which looks to working well. It leaves my house, and then takes a route I know into the nearby woods. Then it basically turns left and follows its own route around.

Now I want to create a second route, again starting at home, and going to the same point in the woods, but this time turning right and following a completely different path.

When I try to click this, the route takes me all around the world avoiding anywhere that the first route goes.

So what obvious setting have I missed?
  • No idea from your description.

Is this in BaseCamp or on your GPS? Did you have the same map selected? The same activity profile?

You say the routes are different. How did you create them?

Hi, I am using the Windows version to create the routes, then the plan is to USB them to my Edge 800.

I created both routes using the same method. Both have cycling as the activity. I clicked on New Route, then my start point.
For the first route, I merrily clicked around my planned route, and the map updated perfectly.

For my second route, I started at about the same place, and then I clicked on a place along the route - the first 2km or so are exactly the same.

Here is a picture of what happens attached.

So on the left of the screen you can see the first waypoint. Then on the right, where you can see the black square and line, is the second way point. But following the red arrows, has taken me right around to get me to that point, rather than following the quickest and already used route.

    Thanks for your help!

  • Well the difference is fairly obvious, on one route you have a viapoint (the black circle) that forces the route to take the northern road. If you delete that viapoint the routes should then be the same.

Yes it was fairly obvious wasn't it! :o
