I created a trip but I was not sure of the start date. I have now determined when the trip will begin. Is it possible to set the start date for the trip or do I have to create a whole new trip?
Sure. Open the trip by double clicking it and select the properties tab. Highlight the line you want to change, right click and double click. Click the radio button for departure and change the date.

Yes you can.
When viewing the route on the map double click it.
A properties window will appear with a list of via points.
At the first via point listed, right click the mouse and select "edit via point".
A schedule box will appear and check the box for "Departure".
Then you can enter the start date and time.
Now all the Via points in the route will be adjusted to reflect the estimated date and arrival/departure time.
This is a very handy tool for creating a time sensitive plan. For example using the same technique above you can select subsequent Via Points and enter a "layover" time for stops for lunch, overnight stays, allowing for sightseeing etc. The entire route will be adjusted for both changes in start times and layover times. For my Nuvi GPS these are not reflected in the ETAs so be aware if your GPS does not. My Nuvi simply provides the ETA based on continuous driving
