Export waypoints in MGRS format

Is there a way to generate a file (txt, csv, gpx, etc.) that is editable outside of basecamp that contains the MGRS values for a waypoint rather than the Lat/Lon value?

Alternately, is there a way within Basecamp to show the MGRS values of all selected waypoints rather than having to go into the properties dialog for each individual waypoint?

Thanks,

Eric
  • I’m not sure what you are trying do. Setting the position format in BaseCamp is done on the Options Measurement window (ctrl-o or under Edit menu).

Viewing multiple Waypoint coordinates can be achieved by placing the Waypoints in a list (or selecting My Collection in the top left pane). There is a tab half way down the left side of the Map pane, click this tab will switch the Map and lower left panes (ctrl-Tab does the same thing). After swapping the panes, select the Waypoint icon (not the one on the Tool bar) to view only Waypoints. This will provide additional information for each Waypoint, including position. However, you can not edit the Waypoints from this view. You will have to open the Properties window for each Waypoint you wish to edit.

Unfortunately, there is no direct way in BaseCamp to export positions in formats other than decimal lat/lon. Your options are to download MapSource. Data can be transferred between the two applications using the Copy and Paste commands. MapSource will export data in the selected position format as a txt file.

Alternatively, all of the Waypoints can temporarily be place in a BaseCamp Direct Route. Place your Waypoints in one list. Create the Direct Route by dragging the first two Waypoints into the New Route window. Then select the rest of the Waypoints in the lower left pane and drag them into the Route listed in the same pane. Open the Route and select the Route Directions tab. Select all the points and copy them. They can now be Pasted into another application.

There is no way that I know of to get data back into BaseCamp or MapSource in any position format other than decimal Lat/Lon.

It is possible that there may be a free application(s) that will import/export gpx files and allow viewing/editing positions in other formats. Perhaps someone can suggest one. (Note: the gpx format requires the positions are in decimal Lat/Lon based on the WGS84 datum.)
