I Don't Receive Email Notification of a Reply

Even though I subscribe to a thread and request instant email notification if there is a reply/change, I never receive any such notification.

It may be because I have not given my email address, and I don't see how to do this in My Profile.

Help/guidance appreciated.......
  • There is no Save button.

In the window where you select Instant Notification look below a ways and you should see two buttons. One is "Add subscription" and the other is "Reset".

An alternative is to set your profile to subscribe to any thread you post in. To do this go to your profile, tap "Forum Actions" in the top horizontal menu and select "General settings". Scroll down a bit to "Default thread subscription mode". Select Instant Notification from the list. Then you will automatically be subscribed to any thread you start or post in. You'll still have to manually subscribe to a thread you want to follow but don't post in.

As for your sent email not showing up in you email's Sent folder, that has to be a problem on your system. I can't see how the forum would affect that. Or were you referring to sending a forum private message?

Wow, Ken......there were many settings under Forum Actions that I was not aware of, so I made the change you recommended. If you get a chance, please send me another test message.

The PM I sent Phil was a forum private message. But now I know why it didn't appear in my Sent folder. In Forum Actions it was checked to "Don't save a copy of sent messages in Sent Folder". So I changed that also. I can't say I agree with all the default settings I found, so I changed several of them.

    Thanks for your response......
  • Glad it helped. Yeah, there are a number of defaults in there that I've changed, too.

Well, I didn't say it helped, lol. I made the changes but I still didn't receive email notification of this latest reply from you. Maybe you can't have changes go into effect for an existing thread??
  • Your speculation is correct. That global setting is go-forward only. To grab this thread will still require manual subscription. Just look for the "Add subscription" button below the dropdown for the type of subscription to save it.

On your profile page and/or the global settings page you can select to see a list of your current subscriptions any time.

Ken, I must be dense. I can't find any "Add subscription" button anywhere.

Furthermore, for the 4 threads that I have started in the BaseCamp forum, there is a green checkmark on each one, indicating that I subscribe to that thread. So if I already subscribe, why can't I successfully request an email notification?

BTW, I did receive an email notification for the PM you just sent me.....the one you sent after I made changes to the global settings.

Thanks for hanging in there with me, but I guess I need some "baby step" directions at this point.

Scroll to the top of this page, click on Thread Tools, click on Subscribe, click the dropdown list, click Instant Notification, look a couple of lines below for the Add Subscription button and poke it.

Ken, I did as instructed. But when I clicked on Thread Tools, the menu only showed these three choices: Show printable version, Email this page, and Unsubscribe from this thread. I tried this with each of the 4 threads I started, with same results.

So the system thinks I am already subscribed to this thread, consistent with the green checkmark mentioned in previous posting.

But if I am already subscribed, why can't I successfully request an email notification of thread replies? We know the email notification process works, because I received a notification when you sent me a PM.

At this point I think that I can't retroactively request an email notification to an open thread; either that, or something is wrong with the Thread Tools/Instant Notification process within the forum. Like I said earlier, this Garmin forum is the only one where I am encountering this problem.

Again, thanks for your support. I'm willing to try anything else you recommend.
  • Try to "Unsubscribe" and then resubscribe to Instant Notification. Perhaps go to another thread and then come back to this one in between those two actions just for good measure.

Let me know when you've done that and I'll enter a test message.

Done. And this time I even encountered the "Add Subscription" button, which I poked.
