How To Purge Waypoints and Routes from nuvi 2789

I used BaseCamp to identify Waypoints and create Routes, which then appeared in My Collection. Then I transferred all of My Collection to my 2789. I thought this process would delete the Waypoints & Routes already on my 2789, but it didn't. So I ended up with some duplications and some data I no longer wanted.

How do I delete all the Waypoints & Routes currently on my 2789, so I can repeat the process of transferring My Collection? I think this may involve working with the current.gpx and temp.gpx files, both of which appear in the internal memory of my 2789. But I don't fully understand these two files.

Can I simply delete one or both of the gpx files and then repeat the transfer of My Collection?

Short answer is no. Current.gpx is simply a one way copy of what's held in inaccessible memory. Temp.gpx is the name normally given to a file sent by BaseCamp to your nuvi. When that is sent and your nuvi restarts it merges what's in the temp file with what is in memory and writes a new current file that now contains both what was loaded and what was in temp.

BC cannot delete data on your nuvi. If you want to clear all data on your nuvi first delete temp.gpx then use the menus on your nuvi to delete your data.

Thanks.......mission accomplished. Everything now looks good on my nuvi. As expected, the temp.gpx reappeared - should I delete it again?

It depends. If you have data in temp.gpx that you don't want to delete in error then leave it there, since data in temp.gpx will always be reimported should you delete it. If that's not the case then delete it.
