What is "Unlisted Data"

In the library hiearchy of List Folders and Lists there is a Grey colored folder call "Unlisted Data".
It appears to contain the contents of all the other lists and in my cases is a massive jumble of routes and waypoints.
What is the Unlisted Data folder for?
Can I delete the contents without impacting other lists? A picture is attached to illustrate.

You've probably duplicated some data without realising. Open the properties of something in unlisted data and select the references tab, it will tell you that it's not in any list.

Unlisted data is any data that doesn't appear in a list ...

I looked at 10 items in the Unlisted Data and found those same 10 items included in other lists I created so this still does not make sense.

Further if I try to delete an item in the Unlisted DATa then Basecamp warns it will be deleted from all Lists. If the purpose of Unlisted data was to contain items not included in other lists (I dont even know that that would be) then there would not be the warning. So it would be very bad to delete from this mysterious folder as then the lists I want to keep would be deleted.

What is the purpose of the list, which is managed by Basecamp?

I agree the warning is confusing, but it's the standard warning when you chose to delete data.
