Routes not importing from Nuvi 3490

I am trying to move my BaseCamp data from my desktop to a laptop.

1. Exported waypoints and routes to the Nuvi 3490, imported into laptop BaseCamp. All the waypoints imported but the routes did not.

2. Did backup on desktop to thumb drive, but cannot restore on laptop, get message "Access to the path C:\Users\User\App Data\Roaming\Garmin is denied." I have tried to restore from the file directly from the thumb drive, I have copied the file to the desktop and into the Garmin\Backups folder and tried to restore from those locations, but get the same message.

At this point I could recreate those routes in far less time that I've spent messing around with this but I want to know WHY didn't those routes import and how can I best do this in the future - when traveling I always add routes and waypoints to the GPS and would like to save them in BaseCamp.

Thanks much
  • Do the routes show in your device? They may not unless you power cycle the device.

As for backing up to a thumb drive, you may get a better result backing up to your PC then copying the back up to the thumb drive.

You could also simply copy the BaseCamp database folder, search for one named 4.2

However without knowing exactly what you've done trying to trouble shoot is a bit of a shot in the dark. I've never had an issue moving data between BaseCamp and my devices.

Thanks. Yes, the routes show on the GPS.

I am away from home right now so cannot try to backup directly to the default folder on the desktop computer and then copy the file, although I believe that was the first way I tried. But when home again in a few days I will try that.

I just tried to locate the database folder (on the laptop, which I have with me) but a Windows search for folder named 4.2 yielded 0 results. Could you tell me where it is kept? My BaseCamp application and all the folders with dlls etc reside in Program Files (x86)/Garmin and backups go to to Documents\Garmin. Is there maybe another location?

    Running Win 10, BaseCamp v 4.6.2.

Are you using a different user name on the laptop than the desktop?

Oops, my mistake, it's more likely 4.6 but I use a non-default one so not sure what the latest one is, however you'll find it at C:\Users\xxx\Application Data\Garmin\Basecamp\Database where xxx is your user name

Thank you thank you. Just for the info of anyone else who might find this thread looking for the solution to this problem, in Windows 10 Application Data is now AppData, but to see it in File Explorer you have to select your user folder and allow hidden files to be viewed, and for me because of my home network config (I guess) the database is under Roaming rather than Local, e.g., C:\Users\xxx\AppData/Roaming/Garmin/BaseCamp/Database/4.6
