Hello, new here and hoping for some help. I am changing computers from windows 7 to 10 I am trying to backup my files to a passport 1 terrabite drive so I can load them on the new computer. I have a lot of tracks and waypoints as well as photos from the Montana in my files. I click file, backup, start and it appears to be loading the files but after a minute or two I get an error message that says backup is invalid or read only. Can someone please give me some direction? I am not a super puter tech... Thanks in advance.
Thank you for the replies, I tried the export option, I selected the "my collection" file but it did not transfer the files, It seemed to be thinking for quite some time and then it said the file was too large. I have a new 1 TB drive so I know it has plenty of room. Do I need to transfer each file or folder separate? I have so many it would take hours.
Thank you again for the help. On the external drive question how do I identify its format?
I seem to recall there is a limit to the backup or export command which may be the issue here given you have lots of photos. Without knowing the full detail specific advice can be tricky.
The simplest way forward is to manually copy the database from your PC to your drive. In Win 7/10 it should be in C:\Users\xxx\Application Data\Garmin\Basecamp\Database where xxx is your user name
From your user folder, do a file search in all sub folders for AllData.gdb or *.gdb. That should get you to the folder that contains the database. Be aware that some files (maybe photos or birdseye data) may be stored in folder higher up.
