Zumoo 665 insufficient memory?

I have a large (128 Gb I think) memory card in my Zumo 665 that is virtually empty. I use BaseCamp to transfer new trips to the 665. Once I disconnect, the 665 imports my files and then tells me that it has insufficient memory? What good does it do to get a memory card if the device cannot even use it? This seems extremely ridiculous to me. Garmin shipped the GPS with almost no storage space available. They provided for expanded storage via micro-SD, but then you can't really use it anyway? Am I doing something wrong here, or is Garmin really that inept?
  • I deleted all but one route and the addresses I had previously loaded on the device and I was left with 168 Mb free on the 3.66 Gb internal storage. I'm not sure how much space each route takes once imported to the 665, but so far experience has shown that I can load less than 20 routes before running out of space.

I checked the info for a Zumo 665 and it should handle 1000 waypoints and 20 routes. The available space should be more than enough for 20 routes and 1000 waypoints. You can check the size by exporting a gpx file of your routes or looking for the gpx file(s) on the device.

I suspect there is something wrong with a specific route. Load half and see if there is a problem, if not, remove the first half and try the second half. If one half causes an issue then it is probably a specific route that is at fault. If this is the case, posting the problem route might help to resolve your issue.

168Mb is a bit light and so that may be an issue in your case. Having said that it should cope with quite a few more routes than 20. Try freeing up space as posted above. Also have you installed anything extra to your internal memory?

In addition to the files listed deleting EULA, Help and keyboard files that aren't needed will free more space.
  • Nothing extra installed on the internal memory.
  • OK.

Either way since routes generally are in the order of a few hundred kb you should find 168Mb ample, which will increase if you delete the files suggested. I know this is the BaseCamp Windows forum but you're not on a mac by any chance? If so check if it's the trash that is filling up your space.

I added an 8Gb card that I can see through Garmin Express, but it still won't let me load the North American map update saying insufficient memory.  Is there someway to get this to work?

  • 8Gb should be ample so not sure why it's not working. I assume the card is empty and formatted FAT32?

If so try removing the card and run Express to update the map, only insert the card when Express asks for it.

Also which device do you have? Express can't use a card in some devices. See here
