Nuvi 55 not following Basecamp route.

I don't get it, my Nuvi 55 worked flawlessly for about a year. I just did a new route in Basecamp, loaded it to the gps, and it sent me completely off course in 2 different spots. If you look at the "map" view, it's the route I planned. But the directions are a whole different animal. Any suggestions?
  • Without more detail it's difficult to help, but do you have traffic trends or traffic avoidance enabled? Either could cause the sort of behaviour you're describing.

Nope, don't use either. I use this gps specifically for setting up motorcycle rides. I've developed dozens of routes on Basecamp + it's always followed them flawlessy. Like I said, it's weird, the map displayed is not the route it follows. The map is the exact route set up in Basecamp, but it doesn't go that way, it calculates it's own route.
  • When you say you don't use either I assume you mean you've turned them off?

If so then your next step is a master reset to see if that cures it.

    Apps>Trip Planner>Trip>Go>Select Next Destination>Start

If a great number (more than 29) of intermediate (intersection) via points are embedded in the route gpx file from BaseCamp or another App, the Nuvi55 may create additional contiguous Trips upon import in order to touch all intersections.

To my knowledge, the Nuvi 55 doesn't have those features. If it does, they're not listed anywhere in the settings I can see. I've made no changes in the settings on the gps or Basecamp. It worked flawlessy before yesterday. Today, I attempted to run the same route, same gps. It took me a completely different way. At times, the highlighted route showed straight ahead while the voice + turn indicator told me to turn. Another time, it showed + told me to travel 4.6 miles + turn rt on SR93. Half way there it changed it's mind + told me to turn left on some county road. In panic mode now, I'm leading a big three day ride to WVA tomorrow. If this thing doesn't follow my routes I'm screwed. Don't know if it's the gps or Basecamp.

Currently have less than a dozen via points. I'm thinking of adding more to force it to go the way I want.. Can't understand how this just all of a sudden happened.. Come to think of it, there was a software update about a week ago I installed.

Sounds like a gps satellite poor signal issue, which is really hard to unravel without a separate gps device creating a good track that does not snap to the road. The Nuvi 55 may be suggesting the wrong left turn because it has lost good gps signal and considers the left turn to be the first step in a U-Turn back to the last known intersection. Leafy summertime trees or being in an urban or other canyon can cause this unwanted U-turn routing.

Not much you can do about it except go into Settings>Navigation> to select U-Turns so that you will at least know what is going on in the mind of the device.. Then ignore the U-Turn advice, if recognizable as an error.

  • All nuvis can have traffic added so you may or not have it. If you do and traffic avoidance is set then that could be the issue.

If you don't perhaps you could post a screenshot so we can see more clearly what is happening?

You also say you had a software update? If so I'd try a master reset.

I've scrapped the problem route + completely revised it. I'll find out if the new route works Sat when I'm scheduled to lead that ride. My concern now is with the 3 day ride leaving tomorrow morning. I've pre-rode it + the Nuvi worked perfect. But if it's developed a hiccup since the pre-ride, I'm in trouble. No way could I memorize three days worth of routes. How do I perform the master reset in case this things doesn't work tomorrow? BTW, thanx much for ALL the help!

Actually, MR won't help me on the road, wouldn't be able to put the routes back in. :(
