Number of waypoints when converting tracks to route

Hi all,

First of all, I'm using Basecamp 4.6.2.

This is what I want to do:

I prefer to create my trip using tracks instead of routes. The editing and ease of use is higher, in my opinion. But I want to have the route on my GPS, as it gives me turn-by-turn instructions, which tracks don't.

There is the 'create route from track' option, both as context-sensitive menu on a track, and as button in the properties view of a track. Doing this creates a route, but in my case always only with two waypoints, the start and the end. I would like to have more waypoints. Sometimes I want to invert a route on my GPS, and when you only have two waypoints, it creates the shortest/fastest route between those two points, ignoring the original track.

I have read on the interwebs that the following should be possible to solve this issue:

* In Edit->Options->Device Transfer, set the maximum number of points to keep. Based on the context of the Options Panel, this sounds all very track related, not concerning routes.
* The button "Create route..." is supposed to give me a popup asking how many waypoints to create for the route, based on the track. However, I don't get this popup dialog.

Either option does what I want to achieve, although it seems that it was possible in the past.

Were there updates that disabled this option? Are there new ways of achieving this?

Best regards,

Bart
  • I find it difficult to understand why you don't create the route in the first place. I've used BC for years and don't have an issue with it.

However to solve your particular problem you need to have the Direct activity selected, if you do that you get the option to choose how many points you want when you convert a track to a route.
  • I find it difficult to explain ;-). A friend of mine also creates his trips using waypoints and routes, but I never fell in love with the method. I prefer tracks, it's more visual. Not quite the Google Maps way of making a trip, but good enough.

It's a matter of preference, I guess. But I do will check more on creating routes 'the odd way' ;-).

Anyway, this works for me know how I want it: using the Direct method, I can choose how many waypoints it inserts (and they 'won't alert', even better!). When I return to Motorbike, it nicely calculates the route I want. At the moment I tried with 50 waypoints.

    Thanks for the tip!
