My light weight laptop has a small SSD and the 6 -7 GB worth of files that Garmin installs tot he C drive are too large. I have a "D" drive that has plenty of open space. How do I get the Maps to load to and run from the "D drive?
Installed JaVaWa's GMTK but it doesn't "see the installed maps even though Basecamp does. Sooo I can't move the CityNavigator map.
Not sure why Garmin can't do the minor programming to allow users to identify where they want the large files placed. I do note that when installing Express a window opens and we are asked where we want Express installed.
But even that option doesn't work. Maybe it's a Windows 10 thing.
If GTMK does not see the maps, than there are probably no maps installed on your computer, but only on an SD card or in an attached device.
Download another tool: JaVaWa Device Manager which will see maps on SD cards and in navigation devices. For zumo/nuvi devices you need often change the MTP setting (search google or youtube for it).
Maps in devices are compiled maps, on the computer are plain maps tiles, it's a different format. GMTK for map tiles, JDM for compiled maps. Garmin MapInstall to make an compiled map from map tiles (to give an idea).
Maps on (micro)SD cards or in devices are how every index by basecamp and also basecamp uses an caching principle when working with an map. This can be large also large information, but is hidden in your user profile which is always in the Users/... folder on your primary drive. For the last one, Garmin Express downloads maps, yes, but these are uninstalled maps, thus GMTK can not find them, but the do eat your disk. After a successful installation of the map, by better go into the C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Downloads\ folder to delete the Map folder with all content below it.
Using Junction Link Magic program it is possible to move this Garmin folder to another location.
