Sending Routes to Device is driving me Nutz

Hello all, (Nuvi 2557) When I create custom routes in BC then send to device MicroSD card I then go riding to check out the route to see if I might need to change some roads because of some reason like the section of road are gravel and may need paving (I ride a motorcycle) I can go back to BC and use the rubber band method to re route a section. Here is the kicker once I fix the section of the route I then upload to device once more but the file does not overwrite the previous file and I end up having two of the same files except the new file has a (e.g. Connecticut Loop 2) at the end of the name route. Why won't it just overwrite the file? So I have to delete the file off the device before I connect it back to PC and the same file in BC when connected to PC other wise the same original file gets loaded back to device. I have to start fresh with no signs of the original file on the device or when connected to BC so I can load the new file to device. Is this reduncancy or what? I was working on this for hours before I figured it out.

Any help thanks..

  • What you describe is normal behaviour. Think of it this way. If you accidentally sent a trip to your nuvi named the same as one you already had that you didn't want overwritten you'd be glad it works the way it does ;)

Shouldn't it work like a normal drive?

I think it should work like any other device connected to PC. If a file is about to be overwritten then it would show a window "do you want to replace file?" yes/no doesn't everything on a PC work this way any how?

    Thanks

PS. Garmin should really have a full manual for there devices on how to use it to its full potential instead of going through trial and error or going to forums and waiting for an answer from someone who might have the same problem.
  • That can't work on nuvi devices due to the way data is added to the GPS. afraid it is what it is. Bear in mind too your GPS doesn't have the computing power of a PC so there's only so much it can do.

As for manuals, there are videos and help files for BaseCamp available through the Help button on the toolbar and downloadable manuals for devices through the Garmin website. Afraid the days of full manuals are gone, kids these days just play with devices to determine how they work (even if there is a manual my son never reads it).
