Transfering routes and tracks to new computer -- HOW?

Hello everyone:
I've just bought a new computer and am finally getting all my software installed. Does anyone know an easy way to transfer all my user data (routes, tracks, waypoints etc) from the old computer's Basecamp to the New Computer's Basecamp?
The only way I can think of is to export a GPX file of each route individually then use a USB stick to move them over, then import them. Surely there must be an easier way than doing this one by one.
Any help appreciated.
thanks
Steve
  • There is, one way is to do a backup of your data then a restore on the new PC using the backup file.

Backup to a thumb drive, pop it into the new machine and restore from that drive, Easy Peasy.:)
  • Thank you very much guys. I'll give that a try and see how it goes.

    Hi Steve,

In case you might not be aware, the replies above are referring to Basecamp's backup/restore feature. You probably know that but sometimes it's worth mentioning specifically.

    ...ken...
  • Hi guys.
Well almost great news, but good news anyway.
I did use the backup/restore feature and it worked like a charm..... right up until I opened my first legacy route.
What I failed to realize was that on my old computer I had and "Activity Profile" customized for my routes, motorcycle riding style, etc. When I opened the route on the new computer with the default profiles from the download, it changed my route to the new profile.
So... back to the old computer and I copied exactly, all the profile modifications/setttings that I had been using on the old computer, then re-set the new computer to these new profile settings before opening any other route.
Worked perfectly after that and I only had to go back and re-jig the one route that had changed.
Lesson learned and now everything is fine.
Thanks everyone for your great advice.

  • Good to know. I'll now close this thread.
  • Computer died, pulled hard drive, where are the basecamp created routes kept? I need to find them and transfer to my new computer.

  • Your data is in a file named Alldata.gdb and your folder/list info in FolderData.gfi

Closing this thread as I see you've posted same question twice.
