Map Downloaded but not Installed /Recgnised by Device and Basecamp

I just bought City Navigator maps for India online as a download version (not SD card). Then I went to myProducts account in Garmin and downloaded the map to my device (Nuvi 2455LMT). I also got the down load complete message in the window. However now when I look in the device, it does not show this map as an installed map. Then I again connected the device to computer to see if I can view the map in Basecamp. Even Basecamp does not recognize the downloaded map (along with UNL code).

When I open the device, I get no-detailed map found message. Why is the downloaded map not being recognized?

What is going wrong here?

Thanks
  • Does the map show in Settings, Map and Vehicles, myMaps? If so is it selected?

If it doesn't show did you download to device or a SD card?

It does not show up on this tab (settings -> Maps and Vehicles -> myMaps). That the problem.

I directly downloaded it to the device (I bought it as download). I also confirmed the IMG, UNL and GMA files are present in Maps directory in the Garmin device.

Another point I noticed is the following:

When I open Basecamp with device connected to computer (Maps are present on the device); I can see Basecamp profiles through the device; reads the map file and then rejects it. So in other words, the file is detected in Basecamp, but its not accepted for usage.
  • Then it sounds like the download is corrupted. Try downloading again and ensure when you believe the download is complete that you do a safe eject. Failure to do that often causes a corrupt map as Windows can still be downloading data to your device.
  • Tried it again. The download fully completes and I eject correctly. Still it does not get detected. While Basecamp reads the map data, I see red highlight on the reading progress. Does that help to root-cause the issue?
  • It indicates a corrupted map. I suggest you call Product Support as they will need to do more detailed investigation than can be done via a forum.

Try running JaVaWa's device manager, as that will confirm the map status

Thanks for note. I tried the device manager. It is not able to detect the device! While Basecamp and Garmin Express can detect the device !
  • Did you read the notes? You need to set your device to mass storage mode. BaseCamp and your PC can see it both in mass storage and mtp mode.

Yes it is set to mass storage mode. Hence even I am surprised, it not being detected by other apps, but Basecamp.

I tried to attack the problem in another way: Tried through MAC option.

    - I connected GPS to MAC and tried to see if Basecamp is able to address the map. And surprising in case of MAC it does detect.
    - In other words: Basecamp is able to access and read the maps in MAC. So not sure what's wrong with Window's version of Basecamp. Its the latest install
    - But the device still says, detailed maps not available.
    - Currently I am trying to re-install the map by downloading it again through MAC just to make sure all the aspects are congruent to MAC
    - I also used the MAC's Webupdate to reinstall the firmware (V8.20) to be sure.
    - Let me also try using the Mac version of JaVaWa's device manager.

Will update after this set of experiments.
  • Sounds like an issue with your PC then, good luck with the mac download.

    Problem resolved:

    - As you observed initially it indeed was a corrupted file.
    - I had noticed that the map file was about 1.7G as indicated in Garmin myMap account. However on both occasions; when I downloaded the maps via windows, the Garmin Windows plugin indicated download complete after 800MB itself.
    - So that was indeed the problem. What is surprising is the Garmin download aid indicated a file download complete, when it was actually not.
    - But the MAC download version, got the full file. (1.7G)

What is also surprising is that, Mac version of Basecamp was able to read the 800MB incomplete map (in the device) also!

But yes overall problem resolved. Thanks for all the help.
