Basemap issue with Oregon 450

OK, I'm struggling a bit and have given up trying to figure this out. I downloaded a .kml here: http://www.wikitrail.org/sections/view/at/3034/dalton-to-bennington

When importing into Google Earth, it has both a trail/route/path whatever you would call it (part of the problem with GPSrs, GIS and other geospatial tech is that one firms term doesn't align with others, making things problematic.) and the waypoints.

What shows on GE is exactly what appears on the above website. A line representing the trail and some waypoints. I also converted it to .gpx online and imported it into Basemap. Again, in Basemap I get the waypoints and a track (footprint icon). And when I clicked on the location (removable memory) on the unit, it shows the trail in BC.

However, and this is the perplexing problem, when I send the .gpx file to to my Oregon, the trail/route/track does not appear. However, in the GPX folder, there is a new Track and Waypoint file. So it's odd that the track does not appear. The only place the trail does not appear is on the actual unit despite it clearly being loaded.

Update: So what it appears is these are "tracks" and show up under the Track Manager button on my unit. So they are there. Next question then... can I make these permanent map features so they appear on my main map, if that makes sense?
  • Not sure what you mean by you converted it to a gpx file 'on line'. I imported the kml file directly into BaseCamp and then sent it to my device, where it worked perfectly, so I suspect however you converted it 'on line' is the issue.

Edit: Just seen your edit :) If you want a track to show all the time you can set it to do so in track manager

Thanks, I appreciate it. The .gpx conversion was from a an online site that converts kml to .gpx. I was under the impression it needed to be a gpx to work on the unit. In any case, I managed to get it to work. Good enough. Much appreciated.
  • It does but BaseCamp will do the conversion to gpx, glad all working now for you.
  • Display tracks

I can't answer the part about making them permanent. But if you select each track while in the Track Manager, you can set them to Show on Map. It will be tedious if you have a bunch of them. I have not found a way to select multiple tracks at once to do this.
