Avoidances and RVs, how to avoid low bridges?

Hello, I've looked through the forum and I haven't seen anything much about avoidances, and nothing about low bridges.

In BaseCamp, you can edit the activity profile for vehicles, such RVs and Trucks, and tell it that you want to avoid certain road types. I see that Garmin makes a trucking specific model PND, such as the Garmin dezl 770LMTHD. This model allows one to enter height and weight for a truck and it will plan the route to avoid weight restricted roads and low clearance bridges.

My question is, does BaseCamp support avoiding low clearance bridges? Or is there some way that I could upload into BaseCamp specific avoidances, such as red light cameras, speed traps, low bridges, or weight restricted roads?

I'm afraid not although I seem to recall that if you have a model that does then BaseCamp will then show the relevant options?

You can though add POIs for things like speed cameras so that they show in BC.

For the first point, I downloaded the user manual for the dezl PND, and it didn't say anything more regarding avoidances than what it says in the manual for the Nuvi 54 that I own. The BaseCamp manual is also fairly vague about avoidances.

For the second point, I guess I'm asking for an upgrade to BaseCamp, to add uploading of PTAs, Points To Avoid, in addition to POIs. Something that the routing algorithm would consult while calculating a route and then avoid that point. Probably someone else has already asked for this feature?

Feature request: Add uploading of custom restrictions to BaseCamp, such as no right turn, no left turn, low bridge with clearance 12' 0", speed camera, etc.

Used to be one of the Garmin developers here frequently but he's now left Garmin and no one from them seems to drop by any more, so best to make that request here

Thanks, I saw that website, it looks pretty good. Do the POIs from lowclearances.com work well with BaseCamp? Just upload them and they should show up on the BaseCamp map? I understand the routing algorithm won't avoid them, but at least they will show up on the map, right?

That's amazing, how easily the AC units are wiped off the top of the RVs, without hardly slowing down the rig at all! It would be hard to hear the crash in the truck cab, hopefully you'll see the debris in the rear view mirrors. After crashing, then you get a ticket for littering.

Sure would be nice to be routed around that bridge in BaseCamp!!

Thanks for the info about setting a Proximity alert. Definitely worth testing out!

It also makes a lot of sense, to stay alert for low bridges once leaving the interstates.
