PC does not recognise nuvi 3597 or oregon 450

I have a nuvi 3597 and an oregon 450. Both were recognised until recently by my laptop. Now none of them is recognised anymore.

I'm running W7 Prof, Basecamp 4.6.2., I'm using a standard Garmin-USB-cable, I have tried several USB ports. The cable and ports work perfectly with other hardware.

What is the problem?

Also have you done any Windows updates recently that could have caused you issues? Or have you added any usb devices?

Which bit in particular solved the issue?

I don't know, I run DriveCleanup.exe, rebooted the PC and connected the nuvi again. That did it!

Not so GREAT! After a while, problems started again. I again deleted all USB-Drivers with DriveCleanup.exe, restarted the laptop and then I additionally run Ccleaner to clean the registry. And the program found a few faulty entries related to USB drivers. Those cleared, I restarted the laptop and since then I had no more problems. I hope, it stays that way.
