Using City Navigator maps

I have a Nuvi 2599, with City Navigator NTU 2017.1 installed.

Am I better planning a road route with the Nuvi plugged in, or should I transfer the map installed on the Nuvi to the virtual drive I have already created for the OS GB maps for use with the GPS 64?

If I am better copying across, I cannot find the instructions I followed for copying the OS GB maps across to the virtual drive, but since I cannot find the City Navigator maps on the device, I cannot even play around with this. If I am better copying across, should I update the map in the virtual drive every time I update the maps etc. on the Nuvi?

With CN maps there's no need to use a virtual drive, just use Express to install the map to your PC. Having done that whenever you update choose the Install to device and computer option.

Firstly, thanks for the advice. However, I'm obviously being a bit thick here, but I cannot see anything in Garmin Express that tells me what to copy / how to copy across from the Nuvi to the computer. Please would you point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Open Express and click on map options. Select Install to computer.

There is no such thing as map options displayed. I eventually found that the map installed on the Nuvi is not unlocked, so I assume in that case I will have to plan a road cycle route when the Nuvi is connected, save the route to the PC hard drive and then copy to the GPSMap

First, your OS map has a CN map underlying it, so whether you route using that or the map on your nuvi you'll get similar results, although the OS (and CN map included with it) aren't updateable whereas the one on your nuvi is.

If the option to install to PC isn't available then your nuvi must be new and have the latest map on it, which is 2017.10. When 2017.20 is released you'll be able to install it to your PC for BaseCamp to use as well as installing it to your device. That will make things considerably easier for you.

Even without that it's not as complicated as you imply. Once you create the route in BaseCamp just connect your GPS64 to your PC so that it shows in BaseCamp and then drag/drop the route into your 64.
