Not Fixed Yet - Export route from basecamp 4.6.2 to RV660

In this thread (clicky) I temporarily solved my inability to transfer routes from Basecamp 4.6.2 to an RV660. The temporary solution was a Master Reset. However, I found that after the initial successful transfer of routes from Basecamp to the GPS subsequent attempts failed. A new Master Reset enables the transfer success again, and then fails shortly.

At this point, I've given up on transferring routes; perhaps a solution will become apparent later.
  • Strange, as I've never had an issue transferring routes from BaseCamp to any of my 5 Garmin devices. How are these subsequent attempts failing? Are you able to attach an example of a gpx file that doesn't transfer to your device? (note as you can't attach gpx files you'll need to change it's file extension to one that is accepted, or zip it as zip files are accepted)

What happens is that the files themselves transfer. That is, the waypoints that make up a route and the file that has the name of the route attached to it transfer. I know this because after a transfer, the list of those files shows up on the external memory of the GPS when viewed in Basecamp; the waypoints appear as waypoints as does the route file. Also, the waypoints can be viewed as Saved Destinations when using the GPS. The waypoints are actually on the GPS because using the GPS internal program I can construct a route using those waypoints. What does not happen is that the GPS recognizes the routes; they do not appear in the Trip Planner app as a saved route.

So the route information is getting to the GPS, it's just that the GPS does not find it and make it a route.

Do you think this issue is due to a particular problem with my GPS - which otherwise works well - or is it due to some problem with the GPS device software - or could I be doing something wrong and causing the problem?

I need to leave this problem alone for now; I just posted back in case someone else has the same problem and thinks that a solution has been found.
  • Routes

I have the same problem with a 65LM. The route transfers fine, but the 65LM can't find it. If I use the Trip Planner in BaseCamp and put my route in the "Trip" and transfer the trip to the GPS, the 65LM finds it with no troubles. You might try it that way.
  • How do you know the route transfers okay? Do you see a file in the GPX folder in your GPS with the appropriate date/time stamp? Note the file is probably called temp.gpx

Note having sent it don't send anything else to your nuvi as that will overwrite it. Disconnect and then power cycle the nuvi.

    Having same issue

Having same issue here with BaseCamp v4.6.2 and RV660 (latest fixes).

    • Create Trip or Route using BaseCamp
    • Transfer Trip or Route to RV660
    • Confirm that Trip/Route is listed in User Data for the RV660
    • Eject the RV660
    • Turn on RV660 ... powers up to the copyright info of maps, then abruptly shuts down
    • Turn on RV660 again, powers up correctly
    • Waypoints exist, Trips/Routes do not

This seems to be an issue with the RV660 as this process works fine on my other Garmin devices.

I just want to update that I'm (the OP) having the same issue. I have not worked on the issue lately, and am currently just not trying to transfer routes to my 660LMT.

I have the same issue with my RV660. I download kml or kmz routes to Basecamp and then send to my device. The individual waypoints/destinations download to my device, but it does not recognize the routing. The routing appears as planned on Basecamp, but when sent to my RV660 routing doesn't transfer, just the destinations. Thanks in advance for any ideas how to correct.
  • I had route transfer issues with BC and my RV660 yesterday after creating 7 trips. They physically transfer to the device but either don't show up or are combined (two trips into one), very bizarre it used to work fine! I tried renaming the trips in BC, deleting from device and sending them again and again to both internal and external memory. After about a dozen tries the RV660 is frozen on the Garmin startup screen. I have held the power button for over two minutes with device unplugged, plugged into computer and plugged into running car....it is basically a paper weight now. I guess I will call Garmin on Monday, it's only 4 months old so warranty should cover the device.

If shaped area propane avoidance overlays are created in the 760, it is possible that the routing calculation errors out when it cannot use a waypoint in the avoidance area. This is likely not a mapping vector issue based on what I have read in recent threads. Good luck.

Dang - I'm having the same problem. Was able to download routes last year but GPS software has been updates since then.
