Route calculation error

Since a number of weeks I get "route calculation error" for new routes that I have created on BaseCamp and transferred to my Garmin Edge Touring.
This has started around the same time as I updated all the software (Basecamp 4.6.2 and on the Edge Touring 2.90)

I have tried everything I can thnk of:
    Factory reset on the Edge
  • Re-install software on the Edge
  • Re-install BaseCamp
  • Re-installed same map on BaseCamp and Edge
  • Switch on and off all avoid settings on the edge
  • Recalculate with different profiles in Basecamp
  • Tried different maps (Garmin cycle map EU 2015.30 V15.30, OpenFietsMap Benelux, OpenFietsMap Lite Benelux

When I switch of the recalculate on the edge, I don't get the error, but also don't get the turn by turn guidance.

I use the following environment:
Basecamp 4.6.2 on Windows 7
Edge Software: 2.90
  • That error normally occurs if the route is too long/complicated or both for your device to calculate. What sort of route is this occurring on?

I have tried short routes (15km) with just 6 way points and both round trips (with same start and end point) and A to B trips. Some trips I have used before, without any problem. I am using the Edge for over an year.
Routes created directly on the the Edge (so not created on BC and then transferred) do work. Navigating to locations also work, so I thing it is in the transfer from BC to the Edge that is the problem.

  • Have you tried a master reset of your Edge? If routes previously sent by BaseCamp have worked then it's unlikely to now be a BaseCamp issue, unless you've updated BaseCamp recently?

I have done factory reset via the menu, did not solve the issue. Is there an even harder reset?

After not having used the Edge Touring during the winter, I did do an upgrade around the time this started.
I have tried to find previous versions of BC to see if that helped, but could not find any.

    More tries

Okay, I have tried a number of additional things things I could think of:
    - Earlier versions of basecamp
    - Master reset, at least I think I did, since I can't find specific instructions on that for the Edge touring. What I did was from an off status, hold both Start/stop and Lap button while pressing on/off button and holding all 3 for 3 seconds. This did reset everything, so I guess this is the master reset.
    - Installed different maps, each time the same on Basecamp and the Edge.
    - Installed Basecamp on a different PC that never had Basecamp installed before. Again with the same map as on the Edge
    - Export a route to GPX in the New file directory on the Edge.

When I switch off the recalculation, I don't get the error, but also don't get guidance. If I also switch off guidance and switch on the off course warning, I do get warnings.

Creating a course directly on the Edge does work, so I feel the problem is in the transfer. It looks like a route on Basecamp is transferred as a track to the Edge. This might be the problem.

One thing I have not tried is an earlier version of the firmware (currently on 2.9). Does anybody know if it is possible to flash an earlier version of the firmware (and where to find them)?

    Any other suggestions are welcome.
