Duration and Mileage Discrepancies

I built a route in BaseCamp (BC). BC provided an estimated total time for the route of 9h 13m and a 549 mile distance. After transferring the route to my Zumo the Zumo provides an extremely different travel time of 8h 20m and a reasonably close mileage of 552 miles. Which estimate do I trust--the Zumo or BC?

If you have been using the zumo for a while then I'd tend to take more notice of the zumo estimated time. My only basis for saying this is that while helping a friend put a long route on ten nuvi 765 units that had been used by his 10 customers on a 7,000 km trip we found that each nuvi gave a different travel time.

We were puzzled by this until figuring out that the 'faster' nuvi's had been used by known 'lead foot' customers while the slower nuvis had been used by those who drove slower. We then assumed that each nuvi learnt the average driving speeds of it's particular user on different types of road.

    Zumo has never been used

Thanks for the feedback. I've yet to get my Zumo on the road. Your explanation makes sense for the situation you described, but my new Zumo has not learned my speeding habits yet. :)
  • Based on that you are seeing a difference for both time and the mileage I'd say that the Zumo is calculating a different route than BaseCamp. To get the same route in the Zumo as in BaseCamp you need to make sure the activity profile and avoidances are the same in the Zumo & BC. In addition, you'll need to have enough shaping points in the route to ensure a true copy in Zumo. One thing I do once I've transferred a route to my GPS is recalculate the route and compare the total mileage and number of points in the route to what is in BC. If they do not match then the route is being calculated differently. If they do match then odds are it will be the same as is in BC.

    Breezly,
Excuse my ignorance, but I'm a newbie. After I get my route in the Zumo, how do I force a recalculate?
    Thanks,
    Keith

My routes recalculate in the Z590 when I import them. To force a recalculation, I use the following steps:
Apps/TripPlanner/Select the route you route you want to recalculate, then /TriBar/Edit Destinations/Save. Note that I do not actually change the destination but going through this sequence will force the route to be recalculated.

Keep in mind this is a BaseCamp forum. For information on Zumos you may want to visit the Zumo forums: http://www.zumoforums.com/

Point well taken about the Zumo forum. Thanks for the helpful recalculate directions.
