Greenland Birdseye imagery - all at standard resolution?

Hi,

I'm using Basecamp with a GPSMAP 64s, seeking to download high res imagery of the East coats of Greenland around N71deg32 W26deg50. However Basecamp always seems to display standard imagery, even if I download High or Highest (which take increasingly longer to load). Basecamp shows that the higher res downloads contain more images (and all the downloads complete without failures). But if I download 3 adjacent areas at each of the 3 resolutions there is NO difference in the resolution of the images when displayed in Basecamp. Is this is limitation of the available imagery (in which case why doesn't Basecamp tell me that and only download the highest available, even if it's only at Standard res), a bug, or have I missed something?

Thanks,
David.
  • If all the imagery is at the same resolution it may be that there is no different resolution available for the area you're selecting.

Exactly the same thing happens with areas of Antarctica. BirdsEye does not give any indication that it's pointless selecting higher resolutions.

In case anyone 'at BirdsEye' is reading, a very helpful feature would be a BirdsEye preview of very low resolution. This is because the map of Antarctica is not always accurate on the coastline so it would be helpful to have the quick low-res preview of BE in order to be able to draw the correct sized tile to include the coast.

Thanks very much for the replies, even though they are disappointing. Not having any indication of the available resolutions makes using birdseye imagery of less frequented areas very frustrating, especially since downloading higher resolutions is very slow. You carefully select the maximum area possible to download, wait for it to complete (at least you can queue requests), only to discover standard resolution is the end result!

Well, if the downloads are slower than the default resolution, something has to be increasing the file size. I'll see if I can't play around with it at the coordinates you provided and hopefully figure it out.
