Cannot delete tracks from internal storage

Not sure that this is really the right place, but..

I have a Nuvi 2599. There are loads of tracks on the internal storage but I cannot find these using windows explorer, so cannot delete them to clear some room, nor can I delete them through BC. It wouldn't be so bad if these didn't show up as grey tracks on BC maps, but I can't even change the track colour to invisible (which would, judging by the tracks created by a 64s, still be thin black lines)

Is there anything I can do, or is this just what I would consider an awful piece of design / programming? Thanks.
  • Nuvi data can generally only be deleted via the menus on the device, and certainly not via BaseCamp. Exactly what tracks are you referring to as some can also be deleted via Explorer if you know where to look.

This FAQ may provide some help

Are you talking about the "Where I've Been" tracks? To clear this data, click on Apps then "Where I've Been", and then click on the three horizontal bars in the top left corner, then click "Clear Travel History".

    Thanks.

Yes, I want to delete the "Where I've been" tracks. I should have mentioned that I had already tried deleting these before I posted originally. I have tried again, as I want to delete the points that indicate where I live - you never know, if I lost it / had it stolen whilst away.... However, I tried again just now - no success.

The help file indicates it stores up to 200k points, but does not state if, once archived, these are subsequently overwritten. As I don't use the Nuvi that much, I guess I have a few years of service even if it doesn't overwrite it.

So I realise that this is not really the forum for hardware improvement requests, but please can Garmin make it possible to delete the "where I've been" data via a software update.

    Just a quick additional comment.

I have now disabled the track logging on the Nuvi - so hopefully at lease I won't accumulate any more tracks.
  • You can. Do the delete travel history as I described and clear the archive folders as outlined in the FAQ.

OK. I have tried again. Unfortunately it still doesn't work. There is no GPX folder as such, and if I select the individual tracks, then they are view only details. I tried inserting a snapshot of the file structure, but for some reason, it didn't seem to want to display.

There is a note at the bottom of the help file

The Archive file feature can be found on all Camper/RV, dezl, dezlCam, Garmin Drive, Garmin DriveAssist, Garmin DriveLuxe, Garmin DriveSmart, LIVE, nuvi, nuviCam, and zumo models EXCEPT the following:
    ◦nuvi 200 series
    ◦nuvi 300 series
    ◦nuvi 600 series
    ◦nuvi 700 series

So, assuming this is one of the 200 series, this helps explain why.
  • Windows explorer will need to show hidden files. I have no problem with either a Nuvi 550 or 2497. The tracks show up in a numbered sequence.

    It isn't :)
  • There is no GPX folder as such ...

Sorry but there will be. All nuvis have a GPX folder.

    Sorted.

Thanks very much Scrubjay & Sussamb.

The final problem was that I had not set windows to show the hidden files. Once I had done this, then I could delete them using win explorer, as explained earlier.

    Cheers
