Garmin Nuvi40 questions

[FONT=Comic Sans MS]I'm new to this as I've never tried fooling with this garmin other than to input addresses or coordinates.

Can I save a .kml file from Google Maps and upload it to the Nuvi somehow? Can I save the file to my SD card and load it or can I save it and restore it as a backup?

I do outside sales and created a territory map on Google. I want to try to load those points to the Garmin.

Thanks.

You can import your places from a KML/KMZ file into BaseCamp and send that to the device but the nuvi will not read the KMZ format directly.

    In BaseCamp:
    • Connect your device
    • Select My CollectionClick File
    • Click Import into 'My Collection'...
    • Browse to your KML file
    • Click Open
    • Right-click the list that was added into BaseCamp (The name will vary depending on the data)
    • Click Send To...
    • Click Internal Storage listed under your nuvi
    • Click OK

The data should now be on your device when you power it on.

    Jason,

Will that add the map points to the existing points on the Garmin or will they show as a new file or separate from existing points? I'd really like for them to be separate if possible.

    Thanks!

This will add them to your favorites. However, you can assign a category to your favorites by following the instructions here:
How do I assign a waypoint category using BaseCamp?

You can select multiple waypoints at once when you follow those instructions so that you don't have to do them one at a time (either by shift-clicking or selecting one and choosing ctrl+A to select all of them).

If you need more help with this, you might try posting in the BaseCamp forum as this forum is intended for Garmin Express discussions.
