Creating a route from a KMl file, Please help

I am want to purchase a Zumo 590LM. However before I do purchase one, I want to make sure that Basecamp software will convert my Google KMZ files to routes.

I have downloaded and installed Basecamp onto my Windows 7 laptop.

Here are the steps that I am taking to try to convert the KMZ file.
I have installed a routable map from here http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/.
I have imported my kmz file into Basegamp.
I picked the activity profile that I want to use (motorcycle).
I double click the track that was imported by my Google kmz file in Basecamp.
I click Create Route.
When it tries to convert the file I get the following error;
There was an error calculating this route.

I believe the KMZ file is a compressed (zip) file than may contain more than just route point. Try exporting your GMap file as a KML file. It should import into BaseCamp and open just like a GPX file.

Thank you for making the suggestion.
I just tried exporting it as a KML file and I still get the error:
There was an error calculating this route.

Maybe it is my maps that is causing this, but they installed with no errors.
I can send someone my kmz or kml file and they can try it, if they wouldn't mind.
I really want to make sure I get this working before I take the plunge and buy the Zumo 590LM.

Where are you getting your kmz/kml files from? Is it Google Earth or Google maps? How are you creating them?

I am exporting them from My Maps in Google.

You can use the following to convert the kml files to gpx.

Unzip the kmz files first.

I have tried converting it with Gpsvisualizer and still not luck.
I am not sure if this is a problem with Bascamp, let me explain why.

I can create a route in Bascecamp from scratch, lets call it home-route.
If I convert my home-route to a track.
Now if I take the track and try to convert it to a route, I get this this error.
There was an error calculating this route.
It should be able to convert to a route because I created it as a route from scratch.
Any ideas?

Not necessarily, it could convert one way but not convert back to the original for various reasons.

Let's stick with your original problem, can you attach an example of a kmz/kml file that doesn't work? You will need to zip it first as you can't attach it otherwise.

Imports fine into BaseCamp on my PC, track is named Directions from 363 W Main St, Denmark, ME 04022, USA to 3120 Kittering Rd, Macedon, NY 14502, USA, and converted correctly to a route using CN NA 2017.10

So it's not a file issue. Which version of BaseCamp are you running, I'm on the latest which is 4.6.2. Which map are you using?

I am using Basecamp 4.6.2.
You said you were cable to convert it to a route using CN NA 2017.10.
What is CN NA 2017.10? Is that a Map? Is that City Navigator?
