I upgraded my samsung laptop to windows 10 and now basecamp will not work. It shows in [] not responding. I've tried uninstalling the program and reinstalling several times and it still does the same. I have disabled windows defender and tried it again and still does the same thing. It works on our home PC after upgrading that to windows 10 but not the laptop. I even turned off my internet security program and still no go. Any ideas besides just using it on the PC? I like to take the laptop on trips and would like to be able to update maps. Thanks for your help!
Sorry about the trouble. We have been trying to correct issues that have been hard to reproduce regarding high dpi/resolution settings. I anticipate that your Win 10 laptop may have a high resolution monitor and that the resolution maybe causing the problem. We addressed these issues in 4.6, but it is the only thing coming to mind. If you don't mind, as an experiment try lowering your resolution and dpi settings to those near or at your desktop and see if BaseCamp will launch.
Hope this is fixed soon; some think over on the MS forums it's the Media player 11 requirement. Most likely nest week I'll be moving to a win 10 laptop as my old XP is on it's last legs. Really thinking hard about making the new machine a dual boot to get around the problem of all these programs I use that are supposed to work on Win 10 but don't. I really really hate new going to a new OS:mad:.
Lots of folks have had no difficulty running the Garmin software under Win10 even on older hardware. So, it kind of the luck of the draw. That said, don't forget that Win10 Pro at least will allow you to easily make and run virtual machines with the OS of your choice installed. I do it the other way around on my iMac and run BaseCamp in a virtual Win 10 Pro machine in the free Virtual Box program along with a couple of other programs that are Win only.
If you are looking to buy a new machine read through the threads on here to determine those that have a problem with BaseCamp and buy something else.
Well I really liked windows 10 but decided to roll back to windows 7 pro and when I did that it erased my drivers and part of the system. I do not have a restore disc so I ordered a repair disc and will wait to see if that works. I'm really thinking about giving up Microsoft and going with a MacBook Pro and partition the drive and load windows 7 on that. Only use windows 7 for base camp and apple for everything else.
Why don't you just run the Mac version of BaseCamp?
I use VirtualBox to run Win10 Pro on my mid-2007 iMac and have BaseCamp installed in Win10. It only runs in 2D mode but that has not been a handicap. I have only done that because I was curious about how BaseCamp had fared over the years after I changed to OS/X. My day-in/day-out use of BaseCamp is the Mac version.
Why don't you just run the Mac version if you are going to a MacBook Pro?
You're right. I thought of that after I hit enter. I do have a program that controls my circuit board on my motorcycle called dashboard for PDM-60 that only runs in windows. That would be the only reason that I would install windows.
