BaseCamp 4.6.2 is available

We've just released a new version of BaseCamp. You can download it at http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4435. Updating from within the app will be available shortly.

We've interacted with a number of users that helped us track down some pesky bugs. Thank you so much for your assistance. We appreciate it very much.

  • Added support for downloading preview imagery for BirdsEye Select.
  • Added support for displaying DEM shading for some cycling map products.
  • Added support for track metadata from FIT files.
  • Improved entry of position coordinates on the Waypoint Properties dialog.
  • Improved performance of some track editing operations on the map.
  • Updated the Czech translation for 'road'.
  • Updated route avoidance settings to be more like PNDs.
  • Fixed BaseCamp incorrectly showing certain maps on card or device as locked.
  • Fixed route via departure dates not always showing as expected on the Route Properties dialog.
  • Fixed routes created in BaseCamp not displaying lane assist and junction views on some nuvi devices.
  • Fixed geocaches not correctly showing as found on Oregon devices.
  • Fixed search issue in some maps.
  • Fixed issue canceling route calculations.
  • Fixed out of memory crashes related to the undo buffer growing too large.
  • Fixed incorrect total space shown in the Device Information dialog for some nuvi and zumo devices.
  • Fixed Send To Device and Receive From Device dialogs sometimes not allowing the user to select a device.
  • Fixed an issue with BaseCamp prompting that old software updates are available.
  • Fixed other various bugs.

Addendum: we've just released 4.6.2. This is a bug fix release which addresses a common crash.

  • Fixed an issue displaying route elevation graphs
  • This upgrade has broken waypoints. I am no longer able to edit waypoint properties.

Can you please provide an example of what is not working for you in the 4.6 release?
  • Can you tell me what version you upgraded from?

You can cause the map to be fully redrawn by doing this:
    • Go to View->Toolbars and check the "Detail Level" toolbar
    • Change the detail level to any other detail level, you can then change it back to the original setting

If you still have a map drawing issue, can you provide the following information to me?
    • What map product (including version number) that you are using?
    • Is this a desktop installation or is the map on a device or card?

I try to change the detail level, but there still have drawing issue.

    I upgraded from 4.5.2
Map: Topo Taiwan NT 2014.30 (map files are install in computer)
  • Importing of kml files disappeared. It is still possible to import kmz files.
  • Waypoints issue with 4.6.2

Can you please provide an example of what is not working for you in the 4.6 release?

I have noticed a considerable annoyance with editing waypoint coordinates in 4.6.2.

To create a waypoint, you click in the map and then open it up to edit the coordinates if you want to be really precise.
Let's say I want to copy/paste the coordinates from Google Earth. I actually do this a lot.
As in, "right here is where the footbridge is"
Google Earth shows it's waypoint coordinates in two fields, one for N/S and the other field for E/W.
I used to just copy the N values and then flip back to the BaseCamp screen and paste them.
Then return to GE and copy the W values and flip back to BaseCamp and paste them in after the N coords.
    Easy Peasy. Done.

What happens now with 4.6.2 is that whenever BaseCamp detects incorrect, incomplete or invalid coordinates, it deletes the whole thing and reverts back to what you had before you started editing the coords. It does this if you try and manually enter the coordinates, too. If you fat-finger a digit, it might just correct/convert what you typed. Basically, whenever the Basecamp waypoint coordinate field loses focus, Basecamp will decide if your coordinates are good and if not, either convert them or delete them and revert back to before. You do not get a warning, or "are you sure" or "I can't save this at this time".

I don't know if that was what the previous poster was complaining about. It's not 'broken', just annoying and it requires more attention to detail when manually entering/editing coordinates or copy/pasting from another app.
  • We have seen issues in the past with the graphics drivers on older versions of the Surface, but I'm not sure if this is an issue with the Surface 4. Have you tried launching the "2D Only" version of BaseCamp from the Start Menu?

no way - BC also dont run in 2D only-mode :(
  • Lost browsing of loaded COURSES with Edge 810

Hello, I have an Edge 810 fully updated to the last FW 5.00 software release.

Before to upgrade to BaseCamp 4.6.2, I Always had the features to "see", let me say browse, which COURSES are loaded into the memory of the Edge 810.

Well, after the upgrade to the 4.6.2, BaseCamp doesn't anymore display any loaded COURSES !!!
Only (and I repeat clearly only) the ACTIVITIES and the Waypoints are displayed correctly as before with older BaseCamp versions.

To be honest, I upgraded to 4.6.1 to 4.6.2, so I don't remember if this problem was affecting also the 4.6.1. Anyway, let me be short, any version of BaseCamp older than 4.6 was fine for that and I never had problem of Courses browsing.

To state clearly also that I upgraded my Edge 810 to FW 5.00 very early and since the FW 5.00 was released I never had trouble of Courses browsing (I had some crashed ... but other matter and already reported).

In the case this is not the right place where to post such a kind of thread, kindly forward me to the right one.

    Many thanks in advance.
    Kind regards,
    Andrea
  • Weird routing using "Garmin Cycling 2015.30" and the "bicycling" transportation method and "minimize distance".

It produces the 3.8 mile route instead of the expected 1.7 mile route just north of the start/end points.

This is somewhat related to the map.

The expected route is produced with City Navigator and other OSM maps. The OSM data looks OK.

The expected route is produced if "car" the transportation method or if "state highways" are avoided with "bicycle". The elevation options don't change the route.
  • Maps and basemaps shows at the same time :-(

After updating to version 4.6.2 Basecamp shows both the maps on my gps (zumo 350 lm) and the basemap at the same time. And the 'real map' does not fit the landscape but runs through lakes and stuff, where its not supposed to run. And the whole experience looks really ugly with some kind of grey/black shadows all over the map. Ehat happened? How do I get rid of the basemap and the ugly colouring?

    Can anyone help me, please?

    best

    /dan, denmark
  • This does occasionally happen and so far I can't recall anyone being able to explain why. Try an uninstall then reinstall of BaseCamp.

    Hi Sussamb

I've already un- and reinstalled BaseCamp three times, but the problem is still there. Sorry for not mentioning that. Important detail :-)
