BaseCamp: How to avoid selecting tracks outside of an area

In a world map with thousands of waypoints and tracks all over the planet, I am trying to select single countries with ALL waypoints and tracks in that particular country. Then, this selection would be sent to a New list to create a country specific kml or gpx file.

However, when I draw the rectangle with the arrow to select the country, it also selects routes that lead into or depart from the country in question from continents away, so the actual selection will include points from outside of the rectangle..

Is there any way to limit the selection of waypoints and tracks ONLY to those that are inside the rectangle?

No. Any track, waypoint, or route that has any portion of it inside the rectangle will be selected. Only by carefully adjusting the rectangle can you minimize this effect.

You could, perhaps, select several rectangles, save the data to a new list, then merge all data in that new list.....but it really would only work for rectangular states like we have in the western US.
  • As mentioned above this can not be done. However, I do not believe it would take much time or effort to clean up your list simply by repeatedly using the selection tool to select areas outside of a country and removing these selected from the list.

In difficult areas, try using the arrow tool and shift key to select multiple items before removal. I believe that an area can be selected and individual items added using the arrow and shift key, but if I recall correctly the reverse does not work.

If you have the technical knowledge of and access to Reverse Geocoding, or know someone who has, this would be best way to handle this. All the waypoints handled in one go.
