Auto backup ?

I have searched for previous posts on this topic but didn't find any, neither could I find anything in Help, or an instruction manual I recently got.

Is there a facility to automatically backup BC when, say closing down the program?

I have set the backup to a folder which is then synchronised to Dropbox. I have to do the backup manually. It would be good to have similar backup functionality to that used by, for example, Outlook, where the program backs up the user files every time I close the program - simply ensuring data is less likely to be lost.

Any new data is automatically saved in the database. Then the previous database from the previous shutdown/startup is renamed AllData.gdb.bak. The only way you can access this backup is through Explorer or Finder, and manually re-name it to AllData.gdb, renaming Alldata.gdb first.

Since this happens every time you open or close the program it's not much use to you unless you can define the exact moment of a serious problem and go in to the folder and isolate the *bak file before it gets overwritten.

    It's here: C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming\GARMIN\BaseCamp\Database

The only reasonable solution is to backup from the file menu often. It is also interesting to note that every time you update BC, a new folder is created under Database, and the previous version of both those files is retained in the folder named after the previous version. Handy if you have a total screw-up after an update. :)

OK. Thanks. I won't bother chasing through explorer to find and change the files as you describe, as I am backing up to a folder synchronised with dropbox.

So as far as I am concerned, I consider an auto backup to a user designated folder would be a useful enhancement to BC.
