I am making a route in BaseCamp

1 starting point
1 end punt
and 2 via (customized route) points (both don't alert)

This is how the route looks like

But this is how it looks after I have send the route to the GPS

Strange

What is going on here ?

All device options (in Basecamp) are "off" (not checked).

I also tried changing the "via Points" to Alert and it still looks the same in the GPS.
Activity Profile is Car and both settings are the same "fastest route" etc etc

I want to know why for example Punt 2 is showing but not Punt 3 and Punt 1 in the GPS

And the other thing what is the "End" after "End Punt" as "End Punt" is my End Point

So what you are saying is that I can name my Via Points what ever I want in BaseCamp but when I send them to the GPS they will be renamed ?

But why is there a different End Point, it's 0 Meters from my own End Point but it's there.

Oke I have a solution for my problem.

Convert my Via Points to Way Points.

Is there a Way to do that in BaseCamp ?

Right click and select Alert on arrival turns them into normal via points.

Thanks but I tried that already and that doesn't work. When I send that to my GPS it comes out the same way (with Via Points Renamed)

The only thing that works is if I convert those VIA points to Way Points and that way the name of Way Points stays INTACT (when send to the GPS) and that is the result I am after.

So my question is, is there an easy way to convert Via Points to Way Points ?

Not that I know of. When I'm planning routes if there are places that I want to alert I create waypoints first then add them to my route. If I'm just trying to shape a route I use shaping or 'do not alert' points so am never fussed what they are named. Sorry but possibly of no help to you :)

My guess would be that the End is added by Garmin so that the Device will stop navigation at that point.

In your first post, it shows 3 points between the start and finish, all set to "do not alert". Yet you state that only two are set to do not alert. Is it possible that the missing points on the device are the two you mention as being set to "do not alert". I believe that devices that accept/use the "do not alert" status should not show them as part of the route on the device.

A better comparison between device and BaseCamp might be the Directions tab in BaseCamp. I would play around with changing the "do not alert" settings in BaseCamp and see how they affect what is seen on the device.

To answer your last question, you can't change your via points to waypoints. You will have create the waypoints, add them to your route (drag and drop or use the + symbol on the route properties window) and remove the via points. But again, the "do not alert" setting for the waypoints may affect what you see on the device.

I think this is how the pieces work.

* A POI is a special position in the POI list.

* A waypoint is a special position not in the POI list. They are not part of a route (but they can be used to create routes).

* A via point is a special position in a route.

* A shaping point is a position in a route used to control where the route goes (a limited/light duty via point).

You can write waypoints to the device whether or not you are writing a route.

A waypoint is something separate from a via point.
