Waypoints that have renamed on GARMIN device are not appearing when connected via USB

I am using the Garmin Oregon 550 device to mark waypoints for a Proposed Marine Protected Area in the Philippines. While taking the waypoints I renamed them on the device based on the function of the waypoint i.e. no take zone, mooring site, etc. When I plug in the device to my computer only the points that were not renamed and are of the format "# (dd-mm-yr) are showing up. Any advice on how to locate these waypoints?

How are you trying to view them? Are you using Basecamp?

Do the waypoints show up in the Oregon and not in BaseCamp, or not show up in both?

The Oregon 550 should create a separate waypoints GPX file each time that you turn the device on (or power cycle it), regardless of any naming that you did to the waypoints. If you look at the GPX files at \drive:\Garmin\GPX\Waypoints-<date>.gpx, are the waypoints there?
